Problem messing up browsing

OK, I know a little about a lot, but that's not really the case with networking. Most of it is Greek to me, so even though I think I found the problem, I have no idea what to do about it.

Before my problems started happening, no major hardware/software changes took place. I updated graphics drivers around the same time my original problem started, and since I thought there was a slim chance they caused my original issue of graphics/images not properly loading/displaying on many sites I reverted, but that didn't help, and more problems ensued.

After graphics/images started to not load correctly, like someone put a puzzle together the wrong way, sites started loading half-way, sometimes just hanging with the loading symbol there but nothing popping up even after a minute or two. Most sites now need multiple F5's before they'll load, Even this F5'ing doesn't always work. And I get errors in Chrome a lot regarding a SSL error when connecting to secure sites (refreshes usually help these errors after a while). I have all the protocols enabled in the settings, in both IE9 (and 10 which I tried in an attempt to fix things) and Chrome.

So, in addition to sites not loading at all in both IE and Chrome, or sometimes after many F5's, and different errors such as "Cannot load page. Check network settings", and heavy-loading like YouTube videos going slow or not at all, I can't run any tests like SpeedTest.net, I just get a message saying "Try Again" when attempting to. Now, I also have a laptop and another desktop on this same router/network, and both of them still work fine.

While Google'ing solutions, I saw an answer to someone's question saying to use a public DNS and followed a link to Google's instructions for using theirs. I followed the steps, switching the DNS for IPv4 and IPv6 in my Network Settings to Google's, and then when following their steps in the 'Testing the new settings' section, I failed. When trying the 'Diagnosing problems' section here, which said to run 2 commands in the cmd prompt to test finding their IPv4 and IPv6 DNS, this is what I got-



IPv4 worked fine, IPv6...not so much. So basically, something is wrong with the IPv6 settings on my computer I'm assuming. And I would think it's computer-specific because the other two on this network still work great. So if this is the problem, causing all of my symptoms, how would I fix it?

Take out the Ipv6 dns settings. Leave it as default. Then try basic web browsing.
Why? A lot of hardware isnt compatable with IPv6 yet. Not that your computer isnt, but your modem may not be, your ISP may not be able to handle it yet. etc.

This is a separate issue, but shouldn't affect your browsing.

Based on the first to IPs in the trace, I'm led to believe you are behind two routers. Is this true?

Yeah when I went into the Network settings, the DNS was set to "Obtain DNS server automatically" before I switched it to manual to try the Google one. I switched it back to automatic for both, browsing is still crippled.

Yes. I have FIOS. The old ActionTec router they installed and then a Netgear N600 running off of it, and which I connect to for internet. I have DirecTV through Verizon as well, was told I need the ActionTec there for DirecTV features/service, so 6 or 7 months ago I hooked up the N600 through it, SpeedTest.net speed more than doubled on the N600 compared to the ActionTec signal, and everything was great. Since...up until the past week or so.

Would something with the router be the problem? The other 2 computers on the N600 run great as they always have.

You could turn off the IPv6 settings under the Netgear Router if not the stack on your Computer and see if that helps.
Something makes me feel it has something to do with that.

Just turned off IPv6 in Windows on the unlucky computer, disconnected and reconnected to the network, and having the same problem guiltysmiley.gif

There's nothing software-wise that could cause those problems? I would think it's something to do with the computer, since the other two on the network run fine. Any suggestions or troubleshooting methods aside from the obvious? I've reinstalled IE and Chrome, reset the settings in both to default, enabled/disabled a few things after doing some Google'ing, and reset computer's network settings to default. Nothing helped. And I can't see any major differences in the settings between the computer having the problems and the other two on the network. So, I'm at quite a dead-end here sadsmiley.gif

Run your computer in safemode with networking. Let it load all the microsoft default drivers and see if the pages you described are loading up correctly. If they do load up, two options are to uninstall the current driver, run CCleaner to remove any instances of the GPU driver and do a new and fresh install, or there is the reformatting option.

Ping a well known domain using the name instead of an IP.

Given you are behind two routers, there could be a confusion with DNS.
