New Bedroom/Computer Desk

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

Once again, long time between my posts here.

Gist of what I need:
  • Desk to fit in corner space of bedroom. Can be Max 60 " Long, 30" Deep.
  • Cannot be L shape or Corner desk, else it would block closet doorway.*
  • Price range of less than 150. More Inexpensive, the better.
  • Have enough Room to have Keyboard/mouse and Monitors(1 23" and 1 19"), and enough extra room for extra components.
  • Does not have to support my Tower, which will be going either under the Desk OR on a small riser.

Now, I have been browsing around here for ideas, but I am caught in a pickle:
Either I buy a desk from a retailer Or Build it myself. I am keen on either one. My only issue is that I don't know which would provide better quality.

Desks/Tables I was looking considering:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69903775/#/S39903772
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60180036/

OR going the route of making it,
Something similar to this thread:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1290691/build-log-star-wars-eyefinity-battlestation-desk

*I cannot do corner desks due to space limitations in my room, due to my 62" TV and bed taking up most of it.

I am open to suggestions and recommendations. Any help is appreciated!

Near an Ikea?

The Galant sounds right up your alley.

I went to a counter top store and bought two rejected tops. One ~60" x 30" and another ~72" x 30" for $40 for both. Then went to the lumber yard and spent another $25 on 2x4 and build myself a desk.

What kind of material was the top? Pics?

just your standard laminate counter top like you find in your kitchen. I don't have pics but my room mate might.

Craigslist. I built my $300+ Galant Super Extended desk setup for $50+gas off Craigslist. Found someone giving away a standalone galant tabletop in perfect condition (no hardware), then a couple weeks later found someone selling a galant corner desk w/frame and hardware in mint condition for $50 and he happened to have the extension piece for the frame, so I adapted it to the tabletop and viola super extended galant desk. The grain pattern differs on each tabletop but they are the same color and its barely noticeable and looks sweet regardless especially for $50 thumb.gif . People give stuff away on Craigslist all the time, just gotta look for the moving sales, going out of buisness ect...I see galant desks up all the time for cheap

Micke Desk, Custom Desk, and Galant are the 3 i'm stuck between.

I just have to get down to Orlando to take a look in person at the Galant/Micke Desk's to decide ultimately. Should be down that way Friday!

Just remember there are many different variants of the galant...if you see one that you don't like, there is likely another option you might like better.

Alright,

Quick update on this.

Went with :http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S39903734/#/S39903734

Got it due to the fact that they had no Galant Glass Tops left in stock(last one in colour i wanted just been bought).

So far, right size and seems good. May add some mounting brackets to attach it firmly to the wall.
