Will upgrading to "win7 professional" from "home" increase my RAM memory from 16gb to 24gb?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I'm currently running windows 7 64bit home premium. I'm just limited to 16gb usable with G.skill 24gb. I know that home premium will limit you to only 16gb vs. professional and ultimate which gives you 192gb limit.

I don't want to buy another OEM 64 bit professional from newegg since it's about 140 bucks new. I believe there is a "Microsoft windows anytime" software that can upgrade your home to professional.

My question is will it rise my 16gb limit to 192gb? I try searching about I couldn't find any answers on google.

Antec 900
Asus P6T
Intel i7-920
Cool Master V8
G.Skill DDR3 24gb
OCZ SSD 480gb

Answer is yes. though since you probably won't use more that 16gb it might not be worth it
Anytime upgrade isn't cheap either.

I think your better off getting windows 8 update which you should be able to find cheaper.

Thanks! I couldn't find anywhere on wiki that it'll move my 16gb to 24gb if I upgrade. Video editing requires a lot of memory so 24GB would be nice.

I'm not sure if I'm ready for windows 8. I don't know how stable it is nor do I know if it'll take most of my applications.

I would let windows 8 mature a little before moving onto it, just my advice.

I'm very happy with windows 8 personally. On the wiki there is a line about RAM just as you stated on original post with pro you will have 192gb available.

edit : are you a student by chance you can get a good discount or for free through MSDN Academic Alliance if your a student for windows 7 pro.

I agreed. Most of my plugin for photoshop don't have drivers for window 8 yet. Maybe another year or two.

I haven't use win8 yet, so I can't give my opinion on it. If your happy with it, more power to you. biggrin.gif

The upgrade version from home to professional is still cheaper then the OEM version (eBay). I just want to know if my 16gb physical memory limit will be removed if I upgrade. 192gb is much nicer even thou I only have 24gb. thumb.gif

A lot of old Windows 7 plugins/drivers support Windows 8. You have to make sure all your important system drivers support Win8, or you will get BSODS. Like me.

Yes, if you install the 64-bit versions only. And your hardware supports a 64-bit os. Which i think yours do. Don't want to shell out money to a greedy corporation? try ubuntu media center 64-bit xD It supports or has ways to support various software as well. Plus the community is pretty open and helpful. If it doesn't work at first, there are people that can help you figure out how to get it going xD Be sure to ask around about the real-time linux kernal too. Definately worth it.
