RJ45-RJ11 Patch Cable

Thread Starter

Hey guys,

Hoping you can help me.

I have an Old Belkin Wireless ADSL router that I would like to turn into a Wireless Access Point. Now if it had a WAN port this could easily be done by connecting its WAN to our Internet switch via Ethernet. Unfortunately it would seem the only Input is the RJ11 Adsl Input. So I am just wondering if a Patch cable that converts Ethernet to an RJ11 ADSLSocket would give me some sort off access to the internet by connect the RJ11 Port to an Ethernet port on the switch. Granted there would need to be further configuration, but I just wondered if it was at all possible.

The ADSL router in question is a Belkin F5D7632-4

Cheers.

No need to change the RJ-11 port. It just wouldn't be used. You would disable the DHCP server and plug the Ethernet from another router into the LAN side of the switch and you're done! thumb.gif

Edit: Forgot to mention that you would have to change the IP of the Belkin device so it wouldn't interfere with the other router.

For example, if the main router is 192.168.1.1 then you change the Belkin device to 192.168.1.2.

I also don't think the WAN Port on the Router can be used that way since I believe it only allows PPPoE.
As for the LAN port idea it would be what I would do. If you need more ports just add a switch smile.gif

This, really.

I wouldn't imagine a straight RJ45 to RJ11 cable exists functionally for your purpose as there are a huge amount of differences between those implementations.

Hmm good suggestions. I was going to disable the DHCP and assign my own IP to it, however plugging my internet enabled switch into the LAN port on the ADSL router would not let it pick up the Internet and wirelessly distribute it would it surely ?
You need something still distributing DHCP/NAT unless you have a pool of IP's provided from the ISP.

I'm a bit confused. Can you give a brief diagram of your network config?
