Should I upgrade my Phenom II x4 970 to FX-8350?

Should I do that? Or should I just try overclocking my Phenom II x4 970 BE?
I mostly play games and record games. Will there be a huge improvement if I upgrade to a FX-8350?

My rig:
AMD Phenom II x4 970 Black Edition
GTX 560
8GB DDR3 1333MHz Ram
970A-UD3 Motherboard
Advanced 912 HAF
Super Flower 650W PSU

Not really to be honest, whilst the extra CPU speed would be nice I doubt you'd get a massive increase in FPS.

Without knowing the rest of your rig its hard to answer but generally no as compuman says you likely won't see any vast increases in performance and any increase you may see is really not going to be worth it compared to the cost of a £30 HSF and overclocking what you have.

If you really really want a new CPU wait a few months and watch 83xx price drop like 81xx did (thats what I am waiting on to replace my PhII X6)

Like others have said not knowing the rest of your rig we cant really help. But i will say the Fx8350 or FX8320 would be very good upgrade options. The single core clock for clock performance is a lot higher that your 970. an the FX83xx will overclock very well. I would get one if you have the budget for one.

Don't bother mate, with that GPU and your CPU they are well matched with each other.

If you're looking for FPS I'd upgrade the GPU to a 7850 or something.

Thanks for all the replies!
So pretty much if I want a better cpu for gaming I would have to migrate to intel cpus right? D: Since steamrollers are dead and all...

+1

You can significantly upgrade your GPU before the CPU becomes a possible issue and doing so would garner you far better improvements gaming.

I do plan on getting a 7970 this Christmas. Would a Phenom II x4 970/overclocked bottleneck the card? If so would a FX-8350 fix the problem?
Yes it would bottleneck it, hence why I went with the 7850. If you're getting that card at christmas then yes, the CPU upgrade is worth it.
