Hi! Today my friend asked, "What would be better to buy one more GTX 570 or something else for 3d gaming?"
Since my knowledge of 3D is quite small, seek the advice of OCN.
GTX 570 price is ~400$, or sell this card and bay GTX 680 or HD 7970
He have i5 2500k and 1920X1080 monitor and Corsair 700w PSU.
Sorry my english!

Hey there

When gaming in 3D you get a 50% performance hit

So if he is fine with what he has with a single 570

this will be roughly equal to what he will have in 3D with 2 570s.

I used to own a single 570 for 3D it was ok.

I than upgraded to a 590 which is amlost as powerful as 570 SLI and it was a better experience for sure.

He wont be playing BF3 maxed in 3D though. He could have to settle with Medium graphics in 3D.

My friend plays BF3 at high settings at 1200p with a 570. I would think two 570s would max BF3 at 1080/1200p...if I am understanding the OPs question correctly. Also, I dont know where you are located but a 570 should be more around $200-250, not $400 as the OP noted. For that money one can get a 7950, vanila 7970 or 670 I would think.
Regarding the OPs direct question, I would think another 570 would be a good option. If they could sell the 570 for ~150-200 I might do that and step up to a single 670/680/7970. Cant beat a 7970 for the money right now. I've found some vanila ones for below $400. I would probably rather have a single 7970 vs 570sli for stability, vram and upgrade path.

oh in 2D it would but not in 3D.

3D requires twice the power unfortunately. The only exception to this rule was Crysis 2 which did its own 3D itself.

Also some countries are blessed (!) with terrible prices in technology

I bought my previous GTX 590 for $1000

and bought my current Zotac 670 4GB for $550 thanks to a sale, Yes. Sux really.

Had 570s in SLI (Both overclocked to 950 core, so they were some faster than 580 SLI). Was not enough to get 60fps in 3D on the most intensive games at the time (WItcher 2 etc..). Didnt like 3D in games tbh, got headache easily. For movies 3D rocks tho.

I would sell your buddy both my 570s for 400 in a heartbeat lol. New you can have em for like 225 nowadays, used 180ish if they clock very well. If he can get em to clock around 875 core then sli 570s are slightly more powerful than stock 580s in sli. Aside from the vram difference.

Ya, somehow I didnt catch that you were talking about stereoscopic 3D. I cant really speak to what card to use as I dont have a 3d monitor (only a 3D TV...different). I believe it doubles the frames so ya, 570 would struggle. Probably need a 670/680/7970. I would still suggest that your friend see if he can sell the 570 and pick of one of the previously mentioned cards. I could not stomach paying 400 for a 570 now. I would pay that for a 670 or 7970 though smile.gif
