It seems like a novelty to me but I am sure someone will like it. I was underwhelmed with the size TBH. I did not realize these were already on the shelves.

I've seen it there too, it looks really bad. Its too short and wide, I could never use that thing for any length of time.

I have the Dell 29. It's a blast in games, the wide aspect ratio is awesome. I could never go back to 16:9. biggrin.gif

Just so you know, LG got in contact with Chris (the reviewer) and done a few hardcore revisions. They sent him the next revision (v1.25) of the unit to go on the shelves:

If I were reviewing the LG 29EA93 v1.25 from scratch, I’d say it’s a fantastic monitor. It has incredible uniformity, the highest contrast ratio I’ve seen in a long, long time, and after calibration it’s almost totally flawless on all our tests. The CMS for video works fantastic, and watching 2.35:1 movies on it is a really nice visual treat. The lag response is very low and for gaming it will work well and offer a very nice field-of-view in games. It really is an incredibly well made, and unique, monitor in the marketplace today.

Because of my prior review I’m even more impressed. Coaxing this performance out of what I had before is a huge improvement, and I believe that because of this experience in improving their monitor quality, it will help LG to develop better monitors down the road. As it is, I can easily recommend people look at the 29EA93 if they get a chance. It offers fantastic performance that can compete with almost any display I have used to date, and really impressed me the second time around.

LG fixed the monitor and it's now one of the best: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6741/lg-29ea93-monitor-review-rev-125

Why not? It's like dual-screen gaming!

Because its about as tall as my 1440x900 17" screen. Its incredibly squished down. I don't dislike the aspect ratio per se, but the physical size of the monitor. They had it next to the Dell U3011 and it is literally 1/2 as tall in veiwable screen area.

It is a novelty item, but I've managed to sell one at Fry's with a 2-year warranty. biggrin.gif

Most people that walk in actually love the monitor, but easily get scared away when they see the $699 price tag, though it's rather feature-packed with an USB 3.0 hub built in. It really would be more popular if they just get rid of some of the features that people don't need and simmer down the design a notch to be more normal looking, while carrying a much lower price tag. They made it a novelty item by making it "too nice" and the price too high, but you're right, anyone with the money to spend and don't care to spend too much time doing the research will buy it up. It's the same reason why people would buy a V8 Vantage over a GT-R. They just don't care about comparing numbers on paper. It's still a beautifully-made, aesthetically-pleasing monitor, price aside. If you had one of those offices where the desk is close to the huge glass windows, and anyone who walks in would be seeing the back of your monitor, this is the one to get. tongue.gif

Its screen is the same physical height as a 23" 1920x1080 display, and 33% wider. This display is bought solely for the 2.37:1 aspect ration, rather than the 1.77:1 (16:9) or 1.6:1 (16:10) aspect ratios.

For the curious, I have a number of 21:9 screenshots here: http://www.overclock.net/g/a/806500/official-screenshot-of-your-games-thread/sort/upload_time/page/0

You would probably want more vertical space.

Make a 120Hz monitor at this aspect ratio and I'm buying without hesitation.
