Trying to overclock an FX-8350

Thread Starter
Ok so I'm having quite a bit of trouble trying to overclock my new FX-8350. I built a new rig a little over a week ago and since then have only messed with my CPU clock a few times. I can't seem to overclock anywhere past stock without getting system instability. Prime95 will throw errors and most of the time I just get a BSOD right when I log in to windows.

I just got my memory set up properly as I was having trouble the last couple days. Thought maybe that was the issue with trying to overclock the CPU but apparently not. Using the UEFI bios, I tried setting the multiplier to 21.5, which would equal out to 4300 Mhz, and got a BSOD right after windows loaded. Didn't even have time to log in.

Am I going about this wrong ? Everything else is set to auto in the bios. CPU idles around 14 C and gets to about 42-45 C under load so I have headroom to overclock.

I would set the cpu voltage to 1.45v and multiplier to 21.5 then call it a day.

Ok I'll give it a try and report back.

EDIT:

Well it booted into windows fine but after running prime95 for a few minutes I got a system hang. No BSOD, just a completely hang and I had to hard reset. CPU temp went to 51 C during the few minutes before I got the hang. There weren't any errors in prime95...

I think I'm going to try running memtest, maybe one my my sticks is bad.

Have you tried running completely stock yet? Set your RAM speeds low so that we can be relatively sure that it's not the problem.

Yea I have. I'm going to try setting everything back to default again though and running prime95 again to make sure it doesn't hang on stock.

Setup your CPU/NB speed to 2200. Some FX chip needs it for a stable clock over 4.2ghz.
