GPU very unstable even at very low overclock :(((

Hello guys!

I may need some help.
I have the R7870 HAWK and wierdy even when i overclock like to +60 core and +50 memory, in my games my gpu just "crashes"
well the screen becomes black than no signal input.
Than itself it becomes the same as before - drops me to desktop and sometimes windows exit the game. itself.
Oh also its in every game.
And my CPU is very stable(i run 10 loops IBT and it was stable, and still after that i added +0.25Vcore so is more than stable).
At the GPU overclocking i add +10 - +20 dependse on mem or core.
and after every +10/+20 i run kombustor and/or Far cry 3 maxed out with cheats so i move VERY fast so its way more load on the gpu.

Please guys i need help ty alot to helpers!!!wink.gif

Maybe you are having a problem with cooling. GPUs, specially AMD's are sensitive to high temperatures: the higher the more likely they'll be unstable.

I would suggest you to overclock it with the fan set @100%, just to rule temperatures out (although you will have to take them into consideration if you plan to keep your computer quiet)
Furthermore, try to overclock the GPU and the VRAM separately, that way it's going to be easier to tweak instability.

As for the CPU overclock - did you touch your ram? If not, good, it shouldn't cause problems, if you did, maybe you should rethink you overclock.
Another point for the CPU OC, is that ITB or linpack is not the only thing you should test. You should test for idle stability as well, for example, mild loads, etc. So you should also run prime95 with all of it's available tests and maybe some customs you can find online that are good for testing your CPU.
Do you have vdroop On? (llc off)? or Vdroop off? (llc on).

Rule out one thing at a time... test your CPU, then your GPU. One thing at a time.

not sure if the 550w is enough for his entire rig

if say 200w for the 7870 and how much is the CPU overclocked plus the water cooling and the rest

Well Corsair are known as good psus,
Hmm at recommandations for 7870 i need 500W regular band. so i guess this one should be fine.
About my cpu, i can run hours of linpack with 1.3V and 10 IBT fool loops on very high ram use.
And still i put the vcore on 1.325V so im 100% sure its very stable tongue.gif

But eh when i check why i get BSoD after OCing GPU.
It always showing that ATI driver caused it. ((( atikmdag.sys)))
My temps at CPU are max 60 at very heavy games.(IBT 80)
and GPU 50 withought OC and with OC maybe 55 at hard heavy games.

Any idea?
(ty alot for trying to help me guys)

Again, this seems to be a GPU related problem, but I can't stress how much testing your CPU only with linpack is not a good idea because it doesn't test it all, no matter how many hours you keep it running.
You should also test for idle stability and mild loads...

As for the GPU, overclock them apart, like I said before: go back to stock settings on your CPU and then start trying to tweak your GPU. Again, one thing at a time, CPU, then GPU, then GPU RAM.
When you are testing one thing the rest should be at stock, always, that way, if something goes wrong, you know exactly what caused the problem.

The PSU as mentioned above was a good catch. Overclocking your GPU with your CPU back at stock should give you more room to play with the GPU if that's the case, so I can't stress enough that you should be playing around with overclocking things one at a time.

Overclocking takes:
- Knowledge / Skill
- A bit of luck
- Patience

+ rep for that awesome reply.
Well i get the same problem with cpu on stock as i trought 1 week ago.
I reinstalled windows anyway, i will now try to do it once again and hope for better results.
It was wierd.
You wont belive it BUT i got 3dmark 11 on 2000P gpu and 9000P cpu...
so total 2600...
srsly and this is with gpu OC on 1150 core and 1300 mem.
Withought OC on gpu i got same cpu but gpu even 2 times higher i was like "***".
Well, this time i reinstalled windows let me check my score now, maybe whole windows was like "fked up" tongue.gif

Maybe the stress test you choose isn't the problem. Try overclocking just your cpu and run the games that seem to crash your system.

If they don't crash, then you pretty much know it was your video card.

With oc ONLY on CPU.
No problems at all.
Well reinstall windows, alrdy getting pretty nice 3dmark 11 score for gpu (almost 8k).
compared to 5k before, i will now check if it was just the windows wich made the prob.

Do that. smile.gif

Did you have more than one driver on the old install of windows? - I mean, did you change driver versions before?
That could cause driver inconsistency, because most of the time with AMD you have to kinda manually remove everything from the past driver in order to install a new one so you don't end up with files from multiple versions working together.

Well i didnt have any other driver on the windows before, just regular.
The wierd thing, now, well yes i get nice scores at 3dmark 11, but hey it feels like each time i overclock more, the fps in bf3 is lower :S
