Upgrade/Coming back to intel

Thread Starter
Well it's almost time for an upgrade to my sig rig.

It will be a slow process but I will be keeping everything in it right now and starting with mobo/cpu then getting a new gpu

how much of an upgrade would this be to my current setup?

Not sure what you do with your cpu so I cant tell you exactly how much of an upgrade you will see. I game alot and play rts's, skyrim, wow, mechwarrior online, and many more. I switched from a amd 1100t (6 core @ 4.3ghz) to a i73820 (4core @ 4.3ghz) and noticed fps improvements in all games (using fraps) but most were over 60 fps anyways. Most games feel no different to be honest, but a few do run noticably better. All rts games I play run smother during heavy battles and large numbers of units, wow fps minimums went from mid/high 20s to 50+, and MWO online gets 45 min fps on my intel verses 30 on my 1100t. If your not an overclocker the difference should be even more noticable. An SSD in my opinion would do wonders more than switching your CPU. Did you check to see If you are CPU bound in anything that you use your cpu for?

If you just want to upgrade then I say go for it, but if you are looking for noticable gains and have already overclocked your thuban then Im afraid you might not see a big improvement.

I switched and have not regretted it but to be honest I havent seen a big difference. Unless you count benchmarks, they run way better!

If you're going to spend that much, I'd go with an X79 setup anyways. An i7-3820 can easily hit 4.5GHZ and the MSI X79 version of that board costs the same. You get TONS of upgrade headroom with X79 too.

hmm interesting. Well i have an oc to 3.7 on it right now, i'm limited by the board i think. I can't seem to get it stable past there. But if i buy a new (better) board i figured i mine as well upgrade.

I feel like going i7 is complete overkill. I game and run a virtual environment on it to study for certification exams for work. Which is why i have the 16 gigs of ram.

I mainly play SC2.
