Hi all, first post here. I'm going to be doing a new build sometime January and was wondering what card to buy as these seem to be the best, will be mostly gaming at 1080p and playing Bf3 heavily and later on Crysis 3. Also will be overclocking and overvolting the cards ( if that helps).

you should consider waiting till the GTX 780 and HD 8970 launch in Q1 2013. if you want to buy immediately go for the MSI HD 7970 Lightning boost edition.

Ah, thanks, for some reason I thought they were going to be released in Q2 for ATI & Q3 for NVIDIA? I haven't seen any benchmarks for the Lightning boost edition on the web AT ALL , could you possibly provide a link to one?

There are no reviews for MSI HD 7970 lightning boost edition which runs at 1150 Mhz boost speeds. there are reviews for the ASUS HD 7970 Matrix Plaitnum which runs at 1100 Mhz. the lightning should be around 3 - 5% faster because of the extra 50 Mhz.

Been doing some looking around and it seems the boost edition is no better than the standard lightning, which is beaten by both the GTX 680 Lightning and the 7970 platinum. But, there aren't any sites around that have both the 680 Lightning and 7970 platinum at 1080p on Bf3 (so that I could compare results) . HardOCP has reviewed both but sadly for some reason not at 1080 and no MP for Bf3 for the platinum review, really stuck as to which one to go for since the new 310 beta drivers are meant to give 18% better performance mad.gif ?!?!

AMD HD 7970 Ghz at stock 1050 Mhz is unquestionably faster than Nvidia GTX 680 at stock speeds (1058 - 1110 Mhz) with 12.11 drivers. GTX 680 even with a 150 Mhz higher clock cannot catch up a HD 7970 Ghz in the majority of the games. BF3 is significantly faster on HD 7970 Ghz. Also the MSI HD 7970 Lightning boost edition(1150 Mhz) will be faster than ASUS HD 7970 Matrix Platinum (1100 Mhz) . its the same chip. so obviously the higher clocked card is faster.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/11/12/fall_2012_gpu_driver_comparison_roundup/

techspot uses 12.11 beta 8 vs 310.61 beta . hardocp uses 12.11 beta 4 vs 310.33 beta. HD 7970 Ghz is 12 - 15 % faster in BF3 SP and close to 10% faster in BF3 MP. its very clear that a GTX 680 at 1200 Mhz - 1250 Mhz would barely match a stock HD 7970 Ghz in BF3. So any factory overclocked HD 7970 Ghz would be even more faster.
