[HELP] Asus M5A88-V EVO not booting properly

Thread Starter
I recently had a friend purchase the following parts (see below) to put a new computer together. We worked on it for 4 hours and got it all together after fixing a problem with bent pins on the processor and got it running. However, when it starts, the BIOS speaker gives one short beep, and before there is enough time to boot into Windows 7, the system shuts down. I determined the sound is linked to a problem with the memory, so I reseated it, moved it to different slots, blew out the slots and memory connections, as well as tried it in another system, along with trying one stick at a time.. I also used memory from the system I'm using now in it, and got the same result. Just a note, I haven't been able to boot into Windows 7 yet (using a drive from a previous system). The farthest I've gotten is into the BIOS settings for memory clock, and once I got there it shut down. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Build:
Motherboard: Asus M5A88-V EVO AM3+
CPU: AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 8-core w/ Liquid Cooling Kit
Graphics: XFX HD-687A-ZHFC Radeon HD 6870
PSU: Rosewill Stallion RD500-2DB 500W
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s

Thanks again!

Update: Also tried reseating the graphics card, also had no effect.

Solved: This Asus board doesn't support the FX processors, even though it is advertised to do so. Returning it shortly.

That would be my next move, but the system won't stay running long enough to get a flash or update in time.

I owned this board.. That beep as long is one short beep that is normal when in post.. are you sure that the heatsink is seated well enough? I would also try clearing the CMOS by pulling the battery as well..

if none of that works I would test that Rosewill PSU.. every time i read a review they have about a 50% rating PSU testers are fairly cheap 20$. I would suspect that knowing that they are generic and quality isn't their top concern.

keep me posted I have vast experience on that board OC'd an 1100T to 4.1 on air cooling just fine it is a solid board.

Option 1 download the latest bios onto usb and try to flash it

Option 2 If you can get your hands on an am3 chip (phenom athlon or sempron) plug it in and restart then update your bios

your board most likely shipped with the older bios
