ASUS GTX 690 or MSI GTX 690

Thread Starter
Most probably a stupid question but is there a difference between these 2 cards other than the box they come in?

ASUS GTX 690

MSI GTX 690

I'd much rather order from the novatech place as Amazon RMA's are much more troublesome than catching a bus and walking into the novatech store. They both cost pretty much the same amount of money as well.

Thanks in advance smile.gif

EDIT: Sorry I should have posted in the NVIDIA section; if anyone that can move it would that would be great.

Nah both the same GPU. Get whichever you like. If novatech, than go with the MSI.

You know that 690s are 2GB but not 4GB right? I just don't want you to be dragged into a mistake if you are purchasing it because Nvidia advertises it as a 4GB GPU.

Agreed, it's a really shady way to advertise the card. Technically there are 4 gigs of vram, 2 on each card which as we all know do not add together. A lawsuit should be started to force the companies to change the way these dual cards are advertised.

Edit: Go with the card that has the best cooling

I agree on the law suit. Terrible misleading advertising. Terrible.

I ADORE Dual GPU cards but this wrong advertising needs to stop.

Probably not because these evil people have the best lawyers in the world. ;)

Man how I fell for that trick with my last 590. I thought it had 3GB of vram. madsmiley.png

Have never seen that about the 690 thanks. I thought that it was 4GB like the 680 is as opposed to its 2GB version. So there's 2 GB in each card in it but it doesn't stack so stays at 2GB?

Anyway shouldn't be a problem as I'm not editing movies for the Cinema or anything like that but rather playing high-end games (Far-Cry, Metro, Crysis...) and IF this build goes according to plan I'll be going SLI with another 690 very soon after I've built it.

Also quick question... if It's only supported by the PCI slot that it's in and the screws into the case at the back, is there a chance of the card connectors warping? I mean It's a pretty long & heavy card and if it's only secured at one end well... I'm on a ship that's going to be rolling around from side to side and was just wondering if that could become an issue; if So I'd just shove a metal rod in there to support the end away from the case or something.

Cheers

The EVGA GTX 690 on Amazon.co.uk costs £100 more than the other 2 pretty much.

I have read that 2 dual gpu cards do not scale very well, you would be much better off with 3 680s in that case.
