Not saying it's wrong but how does it suddenly change outside of drivers? And this is just from what I can remember, probably got a fact or two wrong.
I'm actually considering upgrading my 6970 at the moment and was considering these two options thinking.gif
well Nvidia did release alot of drivers after the 12.11 Betas which improved performance substantially in many of the newest games and afew older popular ones. They were very aggressive in combating AMDs 12.11 drivers and it seems AMD isn't in the same competitive mood. I'm just hoping they release drivers that improve Black Ops 2, FarCry 3 and Assassins Creed 3 performance.

BO2 - Game won't lock at 120fps dips to 90's and 110's quite abit.
FC3 - AMD GE title, they should have better performance with this considering it's in their Bundle yet the 680 is superior
AC3 - Performance is looking abysmal with this game, i won't even buy it for my 7970 because i consider it broken and wouldn't be surprised if the 660ti gets a higher average FPS in it.

So while the 12.11s were pretty "WOW!" in november alot of games have released since then and they are playing catch up once again.

Will hopefully do this tomorrow.
the latest MSI Afterburner also has a frametime monitoring application. It will even do it in real time in-game and will log however many hours of data in an html file for you.

Until that time I'll stick with the card with the best FPS.

It's relatively easy to do, as posted above.

Can anyone here with a 7950 step in and relate if they have noticed any lack of smoothness in their card? More so can anyone who has used both cards featured in the article, or at least similar cards, talk about any perceived difference in smoothness between them?

If you have those cards, sure. Beyond confirming results I want to here from other reviewers how valid they think this method is and if the differences are noticeable when in game.

There's a thread in the graphics card section discussing that, but it's a lot of subjective answers. No data, or consensus.

So while the 12.11s were pretty "WOW!" in november alot of games have released since then and they are playing catch up once again.

The only major title which AMD need to get a move on with performance is Assassins creed 3. Farcry 3 is faster on HD 7970 Ghz with the highest AO settings - HDAO.

gamegpu shows HD 7970 Ghz faster even with SSAO.

http://gamegpu.ru/action-/-fps-/-tps/far-cry-3-v-102-test-gpu.html

hardocp preview also showed the HD 7970 Ghz ahead of GTX 680. anyway their full review article should be out this week.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/12/05/far_cry_3_video_card_performance_preview/2

both these reviews use 310.70 beta vs 12.11 beta 11 with latest patches. so no issues with obsolete drivers.

BO2 was tested by hardocp and the HD 7970 Ghz did quite well. slightly lower avg fps than GTX 680. but much better min fps. same for HD 7950 boost and GTX 660 Ti.

Do not upgrade yet.. I have been holding onto my 6970 for 7xx and HD 8xxx and see those cards. Because even a mid ranged GPU in those generations is going to be a huge upgrade for 6970 owners.

Will hopefully do this tomorrow.

I've already done this testing with my GTX 670. My results don't necessarily disagree with TPR, however, I don't have a similar 7970/7950 to compare it to.

If you want, I can redo my tests and post the results for comparison. I suggest testing a scene or two in Unigine since everyone will have access to it. I can also do GW2, but other than that my game selection is limited.

Clicked it three times on my PC, and another time on my tablet & mobile device. Just to make up for the people screaming at the top of their lungs with their fingers in their ear. thumb.gif

That kind of latency would be horrible, so glad I don't have to deal with it. It's the main reason I gave up SLI for good, I'd rage something wicked if it creeped into my single GPUs like with AMD.

I can't believe it is this bad. Unless HD 7950 users are blind or don't notice the slowdowns at all. I didn't have much experience with AMD cards but from my little experience with them they feel as smooth as Nvidias .
Sites like Anandtech, Techpowerup or HardOCP ... etc should include framerate latency to their benchmarks to confirm this ...

A lot of people don't even notice it. Every time an SLI/CF microstutter thread pops up you always have a small sect of people who genuinely believe it doesn't exist. For myself, its intolerable and an absolute dealbreaker.
