If you dont mind open headphones the Sennheiser HD 518/558/598 is what i would recommend
I have the Sennheiser HD 598 myself and i use them for both my MP3 player and my PC both for gaming and music and they are great for it all mine are 2 years now and they still sound like new
I had a pair of Sennheiser HD 595 before and they where also great but the HD 598 fixes the problems the HD 595 had

Not sure which card I would buy for myself yet, but probably at least a DG(X) for my brother (Sennheiser PC350) for christmas.
2) Audio Technica ATH-M50 (€ 150) vs Ultrasone Pro 550 (€ 200) ? Thoughts?
dx have better SQ, but dont have amp (this is fact, other what i wrote is just to keep in mind)

dg can drive hp up to 150 ohm, so i dont know if that amp can bring full potential of pc350
(i dont say it can nor it cant)
but anyway, for pc350 dg is better choice

u say something like, that u think sound card is not must
then maybe amp alone is better choice

if u dont want to buy sound card for , then maybe 200e is to much for headphones

Thanks for the info

So a DG for my brother. DGX is just the PCIe version right? Same stuff, different connector? If so, that might be the better choice for the future. I don't even have a PCI slot anymore.
Now to decide on a sound card for me ... Essence STX looks so lovely ... but is it worth it ... hmmm, going to let think about that one for a while and do more research.

I love my HD 598 they are good for almost any type of music and they also work okey for gaming
They are actually comfortable to have on for long periods of time sometimes i even fall asleep with mine on because i forget i have them on
I also use them as ear warmers when i walk around outside in the cold

I just hope they aren't too light on the bass though. I listened to my brother's PC350 and I have to say I did find them lacking in that regard. I'm far from a basshead but I'll also watch movies with it so wouldn't want to be left out.
Finding headphones is hard ... especially when I know there's a brown one. It just screams my name ... mad.gif

EDIT2: I can get them for €167, just to give you guys an idea of pricing.

hmm, good to know. Will look into seperate amps but I fear for their availability. STX looks sweet as well.

EDIT: Oh, and don't you guys dare to post headphones with brown leather and a nice real wood finish. I'll seriously hurt you (unless it somehow magically doesn't cost a lot)

No i dont think the bass are to light i listen mostly to symphonic metal/rock and power metal and i think they sounds great
One thing you sould know is if you buy the HD 598 they will sound like ass the first couple of days that is because they need to be played in before they sound right
My 3 HD 277 did it my HD 595 did it and HD 598 did the same i just let them play music for 48 to 72 hours straight and then they sound right

Now, don't take this the wrong way but: what the hell is symphonic metal/rock and power metal?
Seriously, I like listening to good music but I have absolutely no idea about all the genres. Could you give some examples of those genres so I could compare them to my "taste" (in terns of sound levels things whatever they're called)?
(I know that's a very hard question because I wouldn't know which songs to give you if you asked the same from me tongue.gif )

On a side-note: Sennheisers are pretty common so I might be able to test some out somewhere ...

EDIT: In case someone was wondering how I know which genres I listen to when I just said I don't know anything about them:

Classical= music made by people with wigs, lots of instruments, great for adding drama while doing a number 2
Rock = electrical guitars and drums with good male vocals
Jazz = don't know how to read scores but somehow manage to make it sound good
blues = we all need blues once in a while, self-explanatory
"metal" = bands in this category sometimes play on a Belgian summer festival named "Graspop Metal Meeting" so I suppose they're considered '"metal" ...
vocal = I like songs with nice pronounced voices, songs with a meaning. Vocal has something to do with voice, right?

I'm pretty confident you all now realize I'm a retard in regards to music genres ...

PS: Yes, I'm getting tired and rather annoyed since it's all so subjective frown.gif
