Question for cooler master excalibur 120mm case fan owners

Thread Starter
I bought two excalibur case fans. Among the accesories there is also a rubber pad. What is it used for?

Secondly, I tried to use the screws with the fans (without attaching them to something), but the screws don't go too deep, i.e. they become stiff or get slanted while being screwed in.

While I do not have this fan I do think I can answer your questions.

1. The rubber pad supplied is meant to attacht to your fan in between the case and the fan if you want to reduce vibrations going from the fan into your case. You probably have to cut this pad by yourself to the desired size and apply it to a surface where the fan comes into contact with your case.

2. The srews used to install fans are mostly self-tapping screws that create the threading inside the mounting holes of the fan. Therefore they might be a bit hard to install.
How slanted are the screws going in? If it's not much it shouldnt be a big problem as long as you screw them in with care.

Thanks for the reply. The screws are only sligthly slanted but become tight as soon a the tip goes in the hole.

I think the screws are going tight and a little slanted because they have to create the tread they need to secure the fan when you are screwing them in. This should be fine and you might need to use a bit more force to make the screws go in.

If you are worried about this it could be an idea to use the silicon mounts that came with your fan. (I can see them on the product picture on cooler master so I gues you had them with your fan as well)
Those silicon mount don't have to create a thread in the plastic holes of the fan and thus will probably be easier to install. (They also reduce some vibration)

Don't worry about the screws being tight. I have a couple of Sickleflow fans and they do exactly the same first time in. I accedently stripped a few screw-heads because of it (bad fitting screwdriver). One way to get around them going in skew is to grip the threads with a sharp nose plier, then just screw it in until it grips the plastic properly. Once its bitten in it usually goes down perfectly straight.
