Artik : Improved them, drastically.
CPU never goes above 58c @ level 5 cooling fan speed now, in various tests (Aida64, prime95, etc..) The setting is Level 5 / Threshold is 60c. Played planetside 2 last night for about 5 hours, periodically checking the tempurature every 30 minutes or so. It never got to 60c.
.....It was hitting 69-70c with level 10 (ramping from level 5 to 10 @ 60c) before I flipped that fan around, but that was after about 2 hours of gaming. The entire case would warm up to just under this, so all components were running at 55-60c roughly - in effect, that seemed to turn the entire PC into one gigatic heatsink, albeit an inefficient one. That would have been enough, but I prefer to have as perfect stability as possible. I didn't see the temps get up to 72c, which is when the processor will auto-downclock itself. So, in effect - it was barely stable this way. I never noticed any performance loss during the 2 hours i was gaming with it.
I did add another 120mm fan though at the same time I flipped that fan around, so that also adds in here to the drastic improvement. My case and all components stay a nice cool tempurature now (about 25-30c).
Despite having 5 fans actively cooling (not including the PS fan, which never turns on because the system never seems to want to draw more than 150w under load), it is surprisingly quiet. Around 18-20db, and if it ramps up to level 10 for the cpu fan, it's around 22-25db.
Mission Succesful !
