Dead GA-Z68XP-UD3P, need new board advice.

Thread Starter
It looks like my GA-Z68P-UD3P has died. When I turn the machine on the power comes on for a few seconds and then cycles repeatedly every couple of seconds, it never makes it to a post screen. I've taken everything out of the machine except for one stick of memory, the cpu and a video card. I've even tried resetting the cmos and removing the cmos battery. I'm going to try different sticks of memory and a different video card tonight. I don't have another 1155 chip to try in the board.

So with all that said, I would like some advice on my next overclocking board. I only have modest needs for the board, I only need it to handle Dual GTX 570s and be able to overclock an i7 2600k, upgrade to an ivy bridge at some point, and have at least 2 sata 6 ports.

If you bought it new, why not RMA? I believe it has a 3+ year warranty.

Yes, I bought it new about 18 months ago. Did not realize they had a 3 year warranty on those boards. I really gotta get better at paying attention to these kind of things. Thanks, going to be rough going without my rig until the replacement comes in. Guess I can finally put my old Q6600 rig back together that i've been meaning to setup as a living room workstation.

It is possible that your system is stuck in famous Gigabyte Z68 boot loop. I am not entirely sure how to fix it, so maybe an owner of one will help you out.

Try to reseat the CPU, and also try clearing CMOS by removing the battery and shorting the pins.

It was stuck in the famous Z68 boot loop. I had attempted to clear the cmos by shorting the jumper and removing the battery already but apparently the board is pretty finicky about resetting. I gave it one more shot by removing the battery, unplugging the psu, shorting the cmos pin, and repeatedly hitting the power button for a couple minutes to discharge any residual power. That finally fixed the problem. I immediately flashed a new version of the bios so hopefully I wont have the issue anymore. Time to get back to overclocking! Thanks for all the help.
