Depends on your focus.

For gaming, I would pick the Gateway because HD7650 is significantly better than HD7350.
For cpu intensive tasks, the Acer would be better because the FX-8100 is better than the AMD A8-5500.

Gotta say it....

For $500 you could build yourself a little budget box that would get you more performance for the money.....

Acer FX-8150 and add video card, HD 7750 is the best card available without PCIe power required.

Neither. A custom build will always outclass pre-built value.

The Acer FX-8100 will NOT accomodate a video card without a new PSU. You might as well custom-build as you`d pay far less and also get a better case to start.

Beating the A8 PC, here`s my config recommendation:

AMD A10-5800k + Biostar TA75MH2 + 2x4GB G.Skill Sniper DDR3-1600 - $187 shipped ($181 + $6 shipping) [Newegg]

Apex DM-317 case + PSU - $45 shipped [NCIX]

WD Caviar Blue 1TB HDD - $70 shipped [NCIX]

DVD writer - $16 shipped [NCIX]

Windows 8 64-bit - $85 shipped [NCIX]
Logitech Keyboard & Mouse - $14 shipped [NCIX]

$417 shipped

OVER 50% AND MORE THAN $250 SAVED VERUS PREBUILT PC PRICE DESPITE BETTER SPECS ALL-AROUND

Sorry, I miscalculated it! But you do save nearly $100

The trouble and the goodness of the t the A10 5800 APU is the graphics are HD 6670 Equivalent.
For gaming the HD 7770 (approx HD 6850 equivalent) is the more or less entry level.
An HD 7750 need no extra power (55 watt TDP) and is about 60-70% as capable as an HD 7770.
The APU HD 7650 or even the Dual Graphic HD 7690D equal or come close to the HD 7750.
Just know your future intentions
