Bad laptop display or display connector? (Lenovo Y560p)

Is there an easy way to differentiate between whether my display is bad, or if it's my video connector to the display?

My laptop (Lenovo Y560p) display has distorted coloring evenly across the entire image. I can tell it's either the display or the connector, as I can plug in external monitors and they work flawlessly. Also, if I use take a screenshot there is no distortion, so that rules out the gpu.

If I move the display back and forth it will change the way the color is distorting... Sometimes it's a blue speckle overlay, or differing severity. And sometimes it's an extreme purple or red speckle overlay. Sometimes the display works just fine however, giving perfect color quality. Also. the color distortion sometimes changes when nothing has touched the laptop at all.

It's most likely shorts in the wiring harness that runs through the hinge of the laptop. However to your actual question, no, there's no easy way to tell until you take it apart and physically check for defects. You may not be able to see any damage, and the problem still be with the harness.

The only sure way to tell is to swap out the part and see if that fixes it, if not, it's the other part.

Which brings up the question: Does anybody have a clue as to where I can find a replacement connector for this?

That ain't it. My display is LGD02DC, and the problem goes and comes instead of being persistent. I'll have to open it up and examine the connector...

But still, any clue where I might find the connector?

By the looks of things it's all one piece. about $65 for the LCD and wiring.
