new monitor/temporary tv

I need a new TV. I am planning on buying a Sony XBR3 but I do not have enough money saved up yet. What I would like to do is buy something for the time being and then use it as my comp monitor when I get the XBR3. Would a 37 inch LCD tv be too big to use as a monitor? I was looking at a Viewsonic and Sceptre 37 inch TV/monitors on newegg and was wondering if they were any good. I guess I would be open to a 32 inch tv as well but definitely no smaller than that.

Ideally I would like to just hold out for the XBR3 as buying a temp tv now just uses up money that could go towards the XBR3 but unfortunately that isn't an option. I would like to keep my budget in the low range, say $800 to $1000. 1080p preferable but not necessary. Definitely need 720p though.

37 inch newegg

Edit: Some other info - I don't have HD cable yet b/c I don't see them offering anything worth while in my area yet. I will be using the TV with an upconverting DVD player, game consoles, and digital cable.

I think I might just bang out the credit card and get the XBR3. The more I look into it the more confusing it gets. Plus I have this feeling stopping me from getting a "budget" vs the name brand. If I am going to get the Sony, I might as well just get it. What do all of you think? Any other options that I am missing?

Since you plan to get a tv in the future I recommend getting a monitor. It will look so much better. Go for a 24 inch from dell or something. You can always just buy a tv tuner with it.
