They are probably trying to run 8xAA on 1440p.

Also, anyone know which 4GB 680 would be the better brand? EVGA FTW+ or that MSI Twin Frozr.

Nope some games in 1440P even without AA can run very slow so the extra VRAM can help in some games

In these reviews, FC3 only really passes 2GB vram when they put on 8xAA.

I know Sleeping Dogs can eat all 3GB of VRAM on a Radeon HD 7950 in 1080P and it gets even worse in 1440P/1600P that is a game where 4GB or more VRAM helps a lot

Really? that much... I know i'm thinking about picking up a 4GB 680 for my upcoming build, I was going to go with a lightning but since i got this 1440p monitor leaning towards a 4GB one now. I know Crysis3 will probably be another one of those games that take up over 2GB of varm.

I will soon sell my 2 GB Asus GTX 680 CU II OC and buy a 4 GB MSI GTX 680 twin frozr card and then a buy a second one when i got the money for that
For a 1440P the cheapest non korean is the Asus PB278Q and Dell also have one i can't remember the name of that one
I have the Asus PB 278Q myself and It is by far the best monitor i have ever had the colors looks so much better and the 2560x1440 resolution has 3,6 million pixels in it 1920x1080 only has a little over 2 million so 1440P has 75% more pixels in it
So games in 1440P looks much much better then 1080P
TTL Review of the Asus PB278Q

The problem with 1440P resolution is it can eat VRAM like crazy in some games Sleeping Dogs is the worst one i know of

word. didn't realize i would need that much vram until i got a 2560x1440p ips. most games run fine, but there were certain ones that i couldn't play on ultra like witcher 2. still saw no difference in high settings but i can see how this could be a problem going forward with newer titles. was going to buy another 2gb evga sc+ gtx 680 to run in sli, but the new series is a couple months away, so ill wait for that.

if you're going to get a current gpu, why not try the 7970? my buddy has a 1440p monitor like me and his xfx 7970 had no problems running witcher 2 on ultra mad.gif
