Far Cry 3 Crashing - Page 3

No input at all.

There is no visible warning and I have noticed no spikes in temps around he crash event.

The monitor goes black for a moment then sleeps. The case fans are spinning, the lights are all on and my G510 screen is still illuminated but the system is completely locked until I hard reset. There has been occasions where the monitor has turned grey with discernible vertical white lines running across. With the grey screen event, there is usually a synth-like murmur noise (matrix style) when the grey screen appears.

Not sure what the best deduction methods are, nor how to eliminate specific components. When all the testing I have already done has returned no noticeable issues.

***EDIT: Sorry, but one event i have noticed around the crash is a Kernel_Power error 41 or some such. So this is voltage related? or simply the card overheating?

Well the reason I asked was when I first built my pc I had a asus 670 dc2, the card had worked fine for a while and then eventually started doing pretty much everything (except for the white lines on a gray screen) yours is doing except it would do it for every game, and it would only do it at random times. I think the only way I got it to stop crashing was by disabling gpu tweak in your case it would be afterburner.

I've had the same problems with Afterburner uninstalled however not on all games as yet. Afterburner is something I installed and I haven't stuffed around with it very much. I have downclocked and upped fan speed.

I read a suggestion to disable/ remove the Catalyst Control Center and use only the required drivers but I cannot work out how to disable CCC. Apparently it is known for it's interference with drivers...

As for Far Cry 3 I guess i just have to hold out a little longer than I hoped. I still have plenty of games to occupy me and I should see if they all still run like they should.

Thank you for your time.

Hi guys i can add my voice to this one but only on one of my rigs...... My sig rig runs the game like a dream SLI enabled and its never crashed and also performs superb- vsync on capped at 60fps pretty much constantly.

Now on my GF's rig the game has been a total pig crashes on load, or she manages to load the game and crashes after 5 mins. obviously my rig is in my sig but the missis has.

i7 920 @4.0
12gb ram
ATI 4870x2
windows 7 64bit

Game is installed on SSD on both machines only difference is my copy is a physical disc and the missis download from steam but i dont see this having any bearing on the problem

I have tried all the patches and all the latest ATI drivers with no joy

I have seen the UBI response about crossfire but as the G/f's card is an x2 we cant reallly disable it..

Edit* its also worth mentioning that both my GPU's are overclocked as is my CPU in my sig rig with no problem at all, on the other rig all is stock except the cpu has a O/C to 4ghz which it has had since day 1.

Hey guys - thought I'd report in regarding my crashes.

I'm sort of embarrased to own up to this, but apparently the OC on my 3770k wasn't as stable as I originally thought. I was a "very" stable (prime 24 hrs, and every other stability tool I could muster to find) 4.5 ghz @ 1.275. For sanity's sake, I increased my vcore to 1.31 yesterday (because I tried EVERYTHING else) and wouldn't you know....I was able to play yesterday for over 2 hours DX11 mode without a single fault or crash. rolleyes.gif

My specs are NOW:

Win 8 Pro 64
Asus P8Z77-V Pro
3770k 4.6ghz @ 1.31
Sapphire 7970 ghz (no OC w/12.11 beta 11 CAP 2)

Strange - I'll quit complaining until it crashes again...

Nice to see you have managed some results Buck. I on the other hand have been experiencing the black screen crash with more and more of my games.

I'm not game enough to mess with my rig any further but the whole overclocking thing seems to be a key factor in the issues with Far Cry 3.

As best as I can tell, I wonder now if it's the PSU at fault on my end? Maybe that explains why I'm seeing the same thing now with other games...

Either way, I am no closer to a solution.

I hope your Far Cry 3 experience is crash free from here on in smile.gif

Thanks L1 - it's been good so far but haven't had a chance to play since my last post. I'm not hedging my bets just yet. This game has potential - but needs substantial fixes to make it the "10" reviewers gave it early on.

I know this shows how dumb I am.....but I thought I'd just chime in. I built my own system and was frustrated that all of my games kept crashing and I tried reinstalling everything, calling the manufacturers and all that.....and it came down to something really dumb. I noticing my system would crash only when I played a game and I was just about to RMA my video card, when I noticed that one of my SATA drive power cables was touching the GPU fan and creating so much drag that it couldn't function properly. I bent the wire to where it wouldn't touch, and I haven't had a problem since.

Good luck everyone.
