this is my first time watercooling and i need some help

hey,

I plan on water cooling a asrock x79 extreme 11 in a corsair 800d. since this is my first time i think the
(XSPC Chrome Raystorm AX360 Extreme Intel CPU Water Cooling Kit w/ Twin D5 w/ Free Dead-Water) from frozen cpu would be a good start for the cpu, one gtx 680 and possibly the motherboard, (still trying to figure out what blocks to use.) Later i plan on adding 2 more gtx 680s and just buying a second xspc kit with smaller rad (XSPC Chrome Raystorm AX240 Extreme Intel CPU Water Cooling Kit w/ Twin D5 w/ Free Dead-Water) and run 2 seperate loops. i plan on putting both the pumps/res in the 5.25 bays the 360 rad up top and the 240 at the bottom.

first off i cant decide on what fans to use.

is two seperate loops a good idea, or would one dual pump with a 240 and 360 rad in one loop be just as good?

i think ill go with (EVGA 04G-P4-3689-KR GeForce GTX 680 Classified 4GB Hydro Copper 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card) from newegg but not sure about what kind of sli water bridge to get.

and for watercooling the motherboard chipset i coulnt find a block for that and have no clue what blocks to use for this mb but i figure if im watercooling everything else i might as well cool the mb too.

thank you

You don't need to watercool the motherboard unless you are going for a very high OC, like 1.45v+.
The most used fans are scythe gentle typhoons.
Are you sure you want the hydro copper? YOu pay ~$80 premium to have the full cover block installed when you could just choose a regular 4GB 680 and a Heatkiller or XSPC block. Also, the Classified series has lost some value because they don't support overvolting anymore(at least not without a HUGE hassle).

Running two loops is fine, but keep in mind that unless every heat source is on full power, you won't get as good performance as the same number of rads in a single loop.

The classy's are also impossible to find waterblocks for anymore since evga stopped production on the hydro copper for them (unless another manufacturer is going to start making blocks for them). So I would stick with what Legonut said, and go with a regular 4GB reference and get an aftermarket waterblock

thanks for the reply guys I think i will go with two seperate loops to start and maybe experiment and see the difference between just using one pump and what not

as for the fans i see frozen cpu has scythe gentle typhoons as powerful as 5400rpm. I would think the 3000rpm would do, thats double the rpm they come with.

I dont think i will go with the hydro copper classified, i see on frozen cpu i can get (EK EVGA GeForce 680 GTX FTW VGA Liquid Cooling Block - Acetal + Nickel CSQ (EK-FC680 GTX FTW - Acetal+Nickel) and is compatable with 2gb and 4gb gtx 680 ftw+ and in the description states Up to four EK-FC680 GTX FTW series water blocks can be interconnected with EK-FC Bridge & Link system. Additionally this water block lines up with EK-FC680 GTX(+) series water blocks thus even further expanding users choice of graphics cards. The correct connection link for this water block is already enclosed with the product.

i hear distilled water is about the best with some silver and dead drops or is there better additives.

The AX360 kit isn't bad but have you thought about a full custom loop? A little start:

XSPC Dual Bay Res $50

2 bmaverick MCP 350's $55

Durelene Tubing ~$10

Koolance VID-NX680 $120 or Heatkiller $134

Those blocks will fit the EVGA 04G-P4-2686-KR GTX 680 4GB

However many XSPC Compression Fittings needed $4 each.. ~$45-$55

Koolance CPU-380I $75

You must be talking about Crystal Links

I found this "the zotac 4gb and the basic evga 4gb (not the FTW or the FTW LE)" have 4gb and reference PCBs. The fitting you want is just an "sli connector".

I use distilled and silver, its great. I meant with the two loops was that one loop will give maximum performance if only one CPU/GPU is on, but two loops will keep them seaparate. In the long run, I dont think it makes a difference while running at max load.

thanks for the input now i have a good idea of how to pick out the right blocks and connectors/crystal links for gpus. the gpus legonut suggest have stock settings, does this mean they support overvolting? and does that mean that a pre overclocked gpu has the voltages locked in?
Unfortunately no nvidia graphics cards support overvolting, but it can be overvolted to a limit using a BIOS flash.

ok i thought i was reading that nvidia didnt support overvolting, but i didnt realize it could be done through a flash, i will have to look into that. but now i do think it would be wise to buy a preoverclocked gpu because the volts would be higher.
im glad i got all this cleared up, in the long run i think two xspc kits is more than a good start for water cooling plus i like the idea that it will all fit in the 800d. but now im am more comfortable with making all these purchases.
