670/680 for 1st gen corei7 system? - Page 2

ok thx for the quick replies.. guess I´ll go for this one: http://www.dustin.dk/product/5010655979/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-670-oc-4gb-pci-e-dvi-hdmi-dp/#intcmp=searchProvider_SiteSeeker or a 680.
Sucks that I blew the 570 though, I was getting 35-50fps in Far Cry 3 on Ultra. Do you think it´s worth it to pay the extra for 4gig version?

Not at all. Save some cash and get the 2GB version.
4GB is only really for multi monitor gamers.

Just slap the stock heatsink back on, they will never know.

You will be fine man. First Gens are still beasts! You shouldn't have any issues as far as bottlenecks. Plenty of bandwidth on those old chips.

Get the 2GB version. The 4GB version is pointless on a single monitor:

The extra two gigs of VRAM doesn't do anything for you on a single monitor. In fact, the only reason why the Palit got better scores than the other 680 is not because of the higher VRAM, but because of slightly higher stock clocks.

Sure about that? I´m pretty sure some stickers were "broken" somewhere... but it might be worth a shot.

you'll get zero bottlenecks. that i7 920 @ 3.8ghz would even outperform my FX8320 @ 4.7ghz in gaming. you'll be fine thumb.gif

thanks thats what I thought about it not being a bottleneck really, but some people on other forums were saying otherwise.

So tomorrow I´ll try to to slap the old cooler on it and send it back to where I bought it from, they probably won´t buy it since they do overclocks and custom stuff for customers, but I might as well try.

So would the Gigabyte 670 OC Windforce be they way to go or the Asus (its a bit more expensive but not much...) ?
