Laserdisc conversion - video/audio

Thread Starter
Not sure if this is where this goes but I would like to convert some of my laserdisc's to "digital" . I am sure that most of you have no clue what a laserdisc is. This will be one of the very few times I make reference to wiki.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laserdisc
Anyways, I am sure that most modern video cards handle I/O of video and audio. Someone can correct me if I am wrong. I know what capture cards are, and for a while attempted to do some research on these shenanigans.
The main purpose of this is that the the absolute BEST quality version of the ( I shouldn't have to say this as this is really the only true Star Wars to me) ORIGINAL Star Wars trilogy is on Laserdisc. What I mean by this for those who did not get the memo is.. the NON- special edition, REMASTERED version. Yes, this was released on VHS, but we all know how inferior VHS is, especially meow. For myself and some close friends would like the BEST version in a "digital" format. Not sure, because it is in a box and haven't set it up yet, is a Nvidia 260/265? Not sure if that is capable. of what I am asking. If not, I am interested in a capture card or other that works great. Partial to nvidia but if the price is right I can deal with an AMD card.

Thanks.

And this can be moved if it is in the wrong section.

Video cards only handle output, you'll need a capture card. I have no idea which one though. What outputs has your laser disk player got? And what format?

Hey Mr. Bear. I'm old enough to know all about laserdiscs and in fact still own a few even though I don't have a player anymore. Anyway I'm in the middle of a HUGE project of converting all my VHS tapes (stuff I recorded myself) to digital. I'm using VHS to DVD Deluxe to do it all. It has an S-Video input which is what I imagine your LD player has and so accepts 480p signals. It works like a charm, super easy. In my case after I've captured the video I'll often then clean it up some in Power Director before burning it to a DVD.

I'm sure there are other solutions but I was looking for an easy way to do it that worked w/o a lot of fiddling about and this is that. It also goes on sale fairly regularly. I believe I got mine for $50 from Amazon.
