Best heatsink for a 3570k in an Elite 361?

I want to cram this

Into this case

And overclock it a good bit. But Ivy gets hot, and this is a small case. I need a low profile CPU cooler that's no taller than a standard PCI-e video card (less than 122mm/ 4.9 inch according to CM).

I'll be getting some low profile Samsung DDR3 sticks, and maybe low profile video card, so that won't be a problem. There is one potential issue though... I'll probably want to stick a blu-ray reader/dvd drive in there, which may or may not interfere with the CPU cooler.

My current plan is to buy this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709013

knock out 2 birds with one stone, and slap one of those lovely 140mm fans (that normally go for $20) onto the side of the case. That's about as much as I'm willing to spend on cooling, but I'm not even sure if that monster of a heatsink will fit in there.

The humorously large (12 heatpipe blinksmiley.gif ) AXP-140 looks perfect, but as with every Thermalright product, I can't find the dern thing for a decent price anywhere (pictures).
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=axp-140&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.1355272958,d.aWc&bpcl=39942515&biw=2560&bih=1339&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=-nHJUJj9M4qTyQGKpoGgBQ

So... I'm assuming this is the next best alternative, right? If so, I have to grab one before they're all gone (RIP Scythe USA).

EDIT: Also, this build is for someone else. I know I could stick a closed loop liquid cooler in there, but long term reliability is a must. This bloke used his last desktop daily for 9 years... I don't have any data to back it up, but I don't believe an H80 would even last 6.

In a nutshell

Will this fit?

If not, will this get the job done?

Any suggestions?

Phanteks PH-TC14CS is 112mm tall and Elite 362 is 122mm clearance. Cooler will not have any clearance for airflow between case and cooler.

Pretty sure AXP-140 is being made anymore. frown.gif

Have you considered Noctua NH-L12?

Have you seen the new AXP-100? If you can wait a week or two it should be on the shelves. It's in production now.
It's much smaller than it looks. The fan is not a TY-140 series fan, but it's tiny little sister.. the new TY-100.

I've requested one as soon as they are humanly available for use. Can't wait to get my 'hand' on it. biggrin.gif

Ya, I've looked at some Noctua stuff, but anything over $70 is pushing it for me. I'd rather get that scythe cooler.

But the AXP-100... that's exactly what I was looking for. +rep

Thermalright's stuff always seems amazing, but whenever I go out to look for something they make, I'll only find 1 obscure online store that sells it at a ridiculous price. It's a shame, really. You think this'll be < $60 on amazon?

Just did a bit more digging, has anyone used an MST-140?
http://www.amazon.com/Thermalright-MST-140-Cogage-Cooler-LGA775/dp/B002C3Q0VQ

From what I can gather, it seems like it handily outperforms the scythe.
http://www.dexgo.com/index.php?site=artikel/view.php&rubrik=&id=437

And supposedly has 1155 compatibility.

MST-140 is 95.2mm tall with fan so would work in your case. thumb.gif
It's no longer being made but would definitely do the job if you can find one.

Heatsink Specifications:
Dimension: L144 x W147 x H70.2 mm
Weight: 410g (Heatsink only)
Heat pipes: four heat pipes with Nickel plated
Heat sink base : copper

Fan Dimension:
Dimension: L140 x W140 x H25 mm
Bearing Type: two ball
Rated Speed: 1500RPM
Noise level: 33.5dBA
Air flow: 94.7CFM

Assume you've see the one on Amazon.com for $74.95 + post.

I'll probably jump on the $45 MST-140 if stock starts running low, otherwise, I'll wait and see how the AXP-100 stacks up.

Found this review today of AXP-100, Samuel 17 and NH-L9i.

I use Google webpage translate.

Lots of pictures and appears a good review with comparisons showing 3.0-4.9c better than Samuel 17 and 10.8-22.2c better than NH-L9i on open test bed.
