FX8150 to FX8350 is it worst it? - Page 2

Bench marks, bench marks.... the top bench marks show the good old FX 8150 being bench marked against the 3930K.. Using an asus ROG MB, Corsair RAM, corsair SSD.

The bottom bench mark shows the tuned FX8350 with Scorpius set up: AMD FX processor, AMD Graphics 7970 Direct CU II TOP, RAM AMD Performance 1600MHz, corsair SSD, 750Watt Corsair PS running WIN 7 PRo.

See the discrepancies between the less loved 8150 and the new and improved 8350.... it almost make it look like progress is going backwards...

At least I expected to see an increase on the plus side overall through the same benchmark from the older fx to the new but this data shows it improved on 2 then went backwards on 3. How is this possible with a chip with improved floating point unit, fetcher and running 400MHzs faster than Bulldozer? ......

If you wana buy AMD, because you want to, go ahead friend do not feel bad. This is coming from an FX 8150 owner and I like my cpu. WIN 7 load fast as hell... play all my games at full max settings... run my Virtual Linux comp and laught to the bank..

Synthetic benchmarcs may or may not be bent to the highest sponsor, it is up to you to read through specs and see what differentiates one technology from another....

My fellow OCs thank you so much for allowing to express my 2 cents in this wonderful forum!!!! for I am nothing but a neweb in this oc business biggrin.gif

When you do that with the Anandtech bench you see that the 8320 is a good bit faster in almost every benchmark. Now it might not be worth it from a dollars to performance standpoint especially if you have an extremely high overclocking 8150.
But at the end of the day, a 8320 will be faster and there wont be any new AMD chips til 2014 so there is no point in waiting for them. And since you mention having some problems with a couple games then it might be worth it to you to go ahead and upgrade. Maybe not worth it in the dollars to performance like I said but then a better performing rig is worth a lot to me. I say go for it if youve got the cash.

And for those paying attention, you'll see the 8320 @ stock is 100MHz slower than the 8150, yet it effortlessly beats the 8150.

The increased efficiency allows them to run at higher speeds with less voltage while staying within the same TDP, that's why the 8350 comes stock at 4GHz. When it comes down to it, the 83xx chips are better in basically all aspects, even when running at slightly lower frequencies.

Oh, and that's on top of better IPC.
