Yes but, $250 and $264 is a $14 price difference. However the difference between getting a 7870 and a 7950 is quite large. Seriously, spend the $14 and get the 7950.

you can read about Folding here . its a distributed computing project.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folding@home

also you should consider getting the PCS+ Myst HD 7870 based on Tahiti LE chip. 260 bucks. 240 after mail in rebate.

www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131484

This chip is got by disabling portions of the Tahiti chip which runs the HD 7970 - 512 shaders and 128 bit memory controller is disabled. The major differences are Tahiti LE chip has 1536 shaders at 925 mhz core and 975 mhz boost speeds while the normal HD 7870 (Pitcairn chip) has 1280 shaders at 1000 Mhz. the Tahiti LE chip also has 256 bit memory at 1.5 Ghz for a bandwidth of 192 GB/s while the Pitcairn has 256 bit memory at 1.2 Ghz for a bandwidth of 153.6 GB/s. the Tahiti LE chip is faster than the Pitcairn chip. the PCS+ Vortex II which is heavily overclocked to 1150 Mhz will just barely match a stock Tahiti LE chip. Once you overclock the Tahiti LE chip to 1100 Mhz it will easily be 15 - 20% faster.

you can see the review of the Club3d HD 7870 based on the Tahiti LE chip . it matches a stock GTX 660 Ti.

raghu78, Thanks very much for the info on folding, I'll check it out...As far as the rest of the stuff you said about the cards and the chips I will try and check it out, but I think you just gave me brain over load cuz that's a lot to take in for a stone cold beginner.....LOL...And thanks so much for posting the item # so that I can see it. I really like it when some one explains things more completely even if it does make my brain feel like it's going to melt.....LOL..

raghu78, Thanks for showing me the wiki site on folding. OMG!!! That's the first I ever heard on any thing like that!!! It makes me wonder why the researchers are not using EDTA inter venous therapy treatment to help alzheimer's disease as they state it is caused by plaque build up. EDTA treatment has a 30 or 40yr proven medical track record for heavy metal removal, lead poisoning. However it does have a very beneficial side effect, this is documented, it removes all arterial plaque build up in the whole body,it also reduces cholesterol levels which causes the plaque in most cases any way....Thanks again, I have a lot to check into now.
