Depending on your budget maybe it would be better to get a core duo laptop with either the 945GM/945PM chipset and then upgrade to a core 2 duo processor in the future

Ummm... those things don't really go together. If you're planning on gaming with decent graphics, you're looking around at laptops with an Ati X1600/Nvidia 7600 or better. Those computers tend to be around the $1400+ priceline if you want decent RAM and processor (Mobile C2D). If you find a good dell coupon for laptops ($750 off a notebook over $1999), you might be able to buy an e1705 with a 7900GS for $1250, but they stopped giving those coupons. Now its only like 20% off or something.

But seriously, its going to be hard to game with a notebook. Gaming notebooks cost upwards of $1400, run really hot, and have short batterylife due to the increasing energy requirements of graphics cards. But since you're joining the military, you really don't have a choice.

Oh, and the Notebooks on the second post, those have integrated graphics. If you know from desktops, They suck!!!

I'm not going to go over more bad things, because you have no choice.

Instead of throwing parts at you, I suggest it is at least:
Athlon 64 Turion or Pentium 4 M CPU
1GB RAM
Go 7600 or Mobility X1400
40GB or more HDD

I'm not going to go over more bad things, because you have no choice. You should probably try a forum I used until i found this awesome site, http://www.notebookforums.com/ Notebookforums is dedicated for only notebooks. For everything else, overclock.net is better.
Why didn't you read the TOS? no advertising other forums for recruiting.... and not all laptops cost that much, gimmie a sec and I'll show one under $100 that can play oblivion on Medium...

changed it to get rid of the breakage. Sorry for the mistake.

Oh, and you're saying the 7600 or the x1400 minimum? The x1400 is not equal to the 7600, it is less. The x1600 is equal to the 7600.

That's okay but that card is not going to cut it. In this day and age never go below 256mb for video memory if you want any ability to play future, even some modern games, at all. Dell has a variety of very good laptops that can be quite powerful and portable, I wil post some prices up in a sec.
