Got a city with 250k and another 300k daily visitors. Couldn't tell you, the traffic has been horrific ever since ~180k as in yesterday's morning rush hour impacting today's afternoon rush hour. I'll load into that city in a couple minutes to see if the patch changed anything. Not sure how it could when 75% of my roads were already red.

Traffic seems improved..ambulances and firetrucks constantly get stuck etc

You've got a lot of room for roads that'll be wasted otherwise. Especially without streetcars that's going to cause problems.
Add these 4 avenues and it'll alleviate a lot of it:

Emergency vehicles will use empty lanes, they can't go through traffic if it's already deadlocked.

Haven't you heard? 4 way intersections are not the way. T intersections only.

Yeah, but I dont want to play the way EA want me to play, you know, I wanna play the way I want to play. But sadly, SimCity is EA's way I guess.
Most of the lights are green but no cars are moving, theyre just standing still.

And if I place avenues there, it'll fk up my "planning" and no bigger buildings will fit in there.

And its been tested before that having a grid with intersections everywhere = more harm than good. So brickwall layout = better.
The people have so many empty roads to the right but they dont use it cause theyre dumb as hell.

How will it change planning? the normal avenue guidelines support 2 high density buildings between them (1 between road guidelines). And I don't know about you, but if the light's green but the other side of the intersection is congested, I do the legal thing and not block the intersection til they move rolleyes.gif

Just add in streetcars if you're really opposed to more avenues, they're probably the biggest traffic help. And you definitely can play your way, but on a fairly low level it is a simulation, you can't force a road layout to work if it just doesn't. Even if the game had life-like traffic, you've still got a huge section of your city gridlocked because of lack of access.

Also, one HUGE thing, pay very close attention to your bus stops, placing them near an intersection is almost always a terrible idea.

Because the lanes are EMPTY? Why the frak are they not driving into them?

My busstops are nowhere near intersections.
It changes planning yes, many of my highwealth buildings dont fit when I add extra avenues inbetween some of those grids.
I did your way, added roads everywhere inbetween, traffic is the same. And made the town much uglier.

So explain, why is the ambulance NOT going into the empty lane and taking right?

Underestimating streetcars is a folly, you'll notice I only have one main avenue because I started this city long before I understood the game:

That was a few minutes ago, since then I'm now up to 21k riders per day, just on that straight line.

If I had to guess, I'd wager there's currently no logic for them to turn right from a lane other than the rightmost lane. It's a fresh patch that's a huge buff from what it was, it's not the second coming.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh now my firetrucks dont even respond to fire, even though 3 houses are on fire and I have 5 trucks all in their garages.. this is annoying
