Why are so many people missing the point of this?

comparing across gens and architectures isn't perfectly valid, I'm aware. I'm comparing based on a ATi Rage(something ancient can't recall), Radeon 9250, GeForce 6100(int gfx), GeForce 6200(PCI), Geforce 7600GT, 7800GT, 8800GTS 640mb, Radeon 4870 512mb, Radeon 5750 1GB, Radeon 6630m (with a substantial OC when in use whee)

It definitely isn't as extreme as many people make it out to be. My main reason for going with the green team here is thermal dump and acoustics. I'm cramming a lot of high end parts into a tiny HTPC case and am hoping for near silence. I'm debating waiting it out for 1 more gen though. I'll see.

Diehards from both sides of the fence are polluting the thread. It's time to do an OCN review, with multiple configurations.

To be perfectly honest the current gen is "cold" enough. Any decently air cooled card at stock clocks will not produce heat like your hinting at. One of my 680's at stock clocks with a moderate fan profile doesn't really go above 55*. Hovers around 52-54. A 660 or 7950 would be even colder I'd imagine.

Performance per watt is really all that will change. My lightnings overvolted easily match my 480's overvolted on power draw. Temps I cannot compare as those were reference cards.

LET'S DO OUR OWN TESTING.

1. Need instructions on how to properly setup FRAPS to monitor

2. Volunteers from both sides

3. List of games/benches to use

I'd like a definitive answer.

Strange, the 660TI seems consistently slower and jerkier with more sync problems, but the 7950 has a strange time-warp effect where it will skip like 5 frames at a time for no reason

In my honest opinion, both look awful, stick to VooDoo 2

Raptorpowa and I posted FC3 graphs in the other thread, although we didn't coordinate settings or anything. Still gives you a comparison of the relative spikiness of the graph. His was Crossfire and mine's single though, so bear that in mind.

Here's my chart.

I've already made my opinions clear. I don't really care about frame latency measured to the millisecond because I'll never see that anyway. To me this is just a cheap shot taken by TR because they have their panties in a twist over some other BS. Go ahead and tell everybody to buy Nvidia's slower cards because they will be imperceptibly smoother; I like to bench my cards so that doesn't really matter a twit to me...

Well, the thought is that you do see it, whether you realize that's what it is or not - kind of like microstutter. And TR has been testing this way since long before their "tiff" with AMD.
