[TR] GeForce versus Radeon captured on high-speed video - Page 40

I don't have time to sort through the 300 some odd posts here. I just thought I'd throw a couple quips out to get everybody riled up again. Simply because I find it amusing that one tech site has gone out of their way to stir up some controversy, which keeps their view ratings through the roof, and the only thing people have proven by trying to replicate the results is that you can make the needle swing either way on the dial, if you know what you're doing.

First: Why would anyone think that Skyrim is a good platform for this test?

Second: 240fps video to prove a point that then gets converted down to youtube standards. I also didn't see anything that couldn't be chalked up to clumsy encoding, and both videos had similar problems.

Third: Who cares? Everybody here is devoting hours of their life to arguing about the capabilities of their hardware that they paid hundreds of dollars for, instead of using the things.... This is so miniscule that I don't think it even qualifies as a first-world problem.

Get a life and go play some video games. tongue.gif

I need to start a hardware site and stir up some internet drama so I can make bank, because these people are amateurs....

I've already addressed this, twice now.

So here goes #3:
Quote:
Scott Wasson blew up over the pre-launch Trinity GPU-only bench debacle, however his desktop Trinity and Piledriver reviews were not biased in the slightest. All of a sudden, months later, he's supposedly angry at them again? Absolute nonsense. Such postulations are complete desperation by AMD fans to discredit the findings.

Take a look at these testimonials of good character from Anand Shimpi:

Is it not a popular game?

Completely missed the point of the videos. Congratulations. This is what happens when you don't read the thread, and then spew a bunch of uninformed garbage.

You cared enough to post. You might want to keep your hypocrisy in check. Also, if you don't like discussing hardware reviews, you are in the wrong place.

Good trolls have half decent rhetoric... you might want to brush up on it. Your points are too easy to knock down.

I wonder if this has something to do with the placebo effect. I'm more of an nVidia fan and I see more choppiness in the AMD card. AMD fans, however, (from what I've read on this thread) see more choppiness in the nVidia card. I wonder what people would say if they didn't know which card was which until the very end.

If you took apart the video frame by frame, you'd find that the AMD card would be having the large latency spikes that were reported in the original review. I agree though, they should have released an unlabeled video first.

I care more about the fact that so much energy is being devoted to something completely pointless. If I consider myself a part of a community I would prefer they comported themselves well.

Skyrim being a popular game does not make it appropriate for benchmarking. It's buggy as all hell, it's a bad console port, it scales about as well as male organs in cold weather, and it in no way puts either of these cards through their paces, which is what any benchmark should do. Why isn't this comparison being done with an industry standard like 3dmark 11? It would be EASIER to do it with 3dmark 11 than it would with Skyrim. Anyone caring enough to read his article can see the same results in a standard benchmark, because they use them too, so why the hell would you use skyrim? Just bad judgement, as far as I can tell.

Third, I know the OP was doing the same as I was, so perhaps you weren't the one that caught on? I know precisely the point of the videos, this spam has been filling every corner of OCN for weeks, it's getting annoying, which is why I'm bothering with getting caught up in it, I want to see this done and gone.

Please point out in my post where I used the word "Bias". Bias, in this context, would imply the intent to favor one choice over the other. I said that he benefits from the attention he gets from poking a hornet's nest, and everyone knows that AMD fans are a hornet's nest to be poked. That's not Bias, that's business. When you work on the internet and get paid by your popularity or infamy, both are equally profitable.

Edit: Hold on, let me pre-empt this.

If you don't understand how this fits with my first post, if you think this is a contradiction, well... To begin with that makes you very prredictable. It also means that you skimmed my post and then accused me of skimming the OP. Jocular foists are apt for bringing to the front our own folly. This entire subject is folly.

Uh, welcome to hardware forums? This is par for the course everywhere. I just enjoy debating, regardless of the subject.

Skyrim's a popular benchmark in general. It's an important game, and gets a lot of coverage because of that. I'd argue that a review would be more flawed for not including it.

Bumping the thread won't help you there.

What in the world are you going on about? I didn't accuse you of bias anywhere; I just copy-pasted a previous post I made to this thread that was not addressed to you. Also, you explicitly stated that you hadn't paid any attention to this thread. You're the one that said it, not me.

And if you're already predicting the response that you're going to get, you might want to do a better job addressing that response.

Also, you're entitled to your own opinion. The community is going to continually ignore it. The thread will die down eventually, and it looks like it was going to, had you not bumped it with a bunch of garbage that's already been laid to rest.

Still think the 7950 video is less choppy overall than the 660Ti. There are large stutters periodically but the periods in between are far smoother than the 660Ti. If the 660Ti's "choppiness" is just because of the 240fps camera then why is the 7950's video so much smoother between the larger lags?
choppiness is relative to the viewer, end of discussion thumb.gifsmile.gif PS. both are solid cards
post #399 of 542
True though it does seem that many people in this thread have the same general opinion as I do in that the 7950 seems smoother than the 660Ti during the segments between the larger lags....
