Nintendo learned their lesson with top end hardware with N64, they're not gonna make the same mistake again.

The only lessons Nintendo learned about the N64 is that using cartridges when everyone else was moving to CD's meant they were expensive and people didn't like to pay £60 a game when the competition had them for £30. Also, CD audio > Cartridges.

The wii is a "family" console and the word family is basically equal to children.

The wii is made for a younger age group eye candy doesn't matter much to kids.

Xbox/play station is targeted at a older crowd 16+ in this target area eye candy is usually a large part of the wow factor for a Intial game purchase.

The wii isn't a direct competitor and it never wil be. Just Like Nintendo planned.

I think it's already been mentioned that this was due too cartridge space not being enough and as far as I'm aware there's never been a swap cartridge function. I remember you could stack cartriges ontop of each other on the Mega Drive biggrin.gif

Also its mad that I'm playing FF7 on my Galaxy S2 phone now and its as smooth as it was on (then) top of the line console and it doesn't even break a sweat.

The PS1 is nearly 20 years old, I feel so old!

I don't understand why people want a Nintendo console to have powerful hardware.

Nintendo consoles are nothing more than proprietary boxes which allow you to play their exclusives. It's essentially a "Play Mario/Zelda/Metroid" box. Nothing more. Sure there's a few 3rd party games popping up here and there, but they almost always look & play far better on XBox/Playstation. Again - people don't buy a Nintendo console for 3rd party games (and you're stupid if you did), they buy it to play Nintendo's exclusive franchises.

So why on earth would people want to pay MORE for powerful hardware if they're simply after whatever box will allow them to play Nintendo's next Super Mario Wii Brothers U Ultimate Zelda Universe Kong 3?

While this is a big issue (somewhat) by itself, it probably won't deter gamers that actually desire Nintendo exclusive, however, a bigger issue lies with the ridiculous online system that Nintendo put on this thing, with accounts that are attached to the console, this means that if the console breaks or is stolen, all your purchases on the online store are gone before Nintendo restores it. Both sony and microsoft have had much better implementations for online since 2005/2006.

IDK maybe its because the WiiU is Nintendos push into getting better 3rd party games and not miss out on multiplatform games. The Wii may have made nintendo a lot of money, but you would be surprised how little console sales make you money. The real money is in the games, and Nintendo was pretty much making all its money from its 1st party games. In reality MS is making more off the 360 then Nintendo ever did off the Wii for one simple reason. Online content, the 360 still and will continue to make bucks of money off that.

Because of the weak CPU in the system it is more likely that the system will see more 360 ports with improved graphics/AA instead of xbox720/ps4 ports, even though the consoles GPU is more then capable of pushing the polygons. This is gonna kill them in the end, look at the Wii. In the Wii's final days it is barly making money, software sales are poor and so are hardware sales. Only the 1st party titles are good and the online content is a joke compared to others. The WiiU online experience isnt much better then a 3DS.

The Wii wouldn't have been so bad graphically if it gave you a HDMI port that scaled everything to atleast 720p. 480i looks like crap on a TV, and forcing users to use component cables to get 480p just so you can get decently clear text on a LCD is bull. No one uses square TV's anymore for gaming, not even back in 06.

I can't think of a way where the GB line was superior to the DS line. Besides battery life.

Also I agree with Tippy.

Nintendo consoles have always been to play 1st parties and some games from Japanese developers.

Guys stop forgetting that Nintendo stopped being Hard-Core gaming along time ago. Its casual which is where the majority are. Its why the smart-phone gaming is so popular because most people are not hard-core gamers. Nintendo and Apple cater to that majority which is where the money is.

If not, shiny graphics and all, off to the shelf of unplayed games it goes.
I still put more time into Counter Strike (source though I still play 1.6), Morrowind and SNES games than I do newer titles AND I just upgraded my pc with hopes of spiking my interest in some of these newer games. Sure they are visually stunning but the core of the game hasn't changed in any way and they are often dull games that thrive off visuals alone.

Rage comes to mind.
