[Tom's HW] Wii U CPU and GPU Rendered in High-Res - Page 8

If I had the choice to play the same exact game, but with either crappy graphics or better graphics, I'd assume everybody here would choose playing it with the better graphics. What sucks about consoles with these lower specs is you no longer have a choice but to play that game with crappy graphics.

For those who don't mind.....go play on a tablet

and it won't be because it's going to be more gimmicky touch stuff. "let's improve all your favorite series by dumbing down the gameplay and giving you less precise touch controls."

nintendo games used to be simple but still have enough depth to be entertaining for a long period of time. i think the high point of this was really the gamecube era, where we got titles that added depth while still staying accesible. games like double dash and ssb melee. then they threw that out the window with the wii

It's not Nintendo's fault developers can't bloody well make games properly anymore and they would rather bum rush a bunch of ports out the door for release day instead of making them run without framerate issues like Arkham City and Mass Effect 3 have. No, it's not the consoles fault at all, because those games look ten times better then their counterparts on the PS3 and 360.
Nintendo has no interest in competing with the current generation, because the current generation is officially done, games are drying up and the hardware is proving to be far too slow to keep making games for as PC technology advances. Sony and Microsoft really won't be able to sell new consoles with much better hardware without really gouging consumers price wise. Look at how terrible the PS3 launch was, as well as it's first 3 or 4 years on the market with such an absurd (and still overpriced) price point. No one is going to pay 600 dollars for a console again, and Sony sure as hell can't risk losing the amount of money they did with the PS3 again, it would financially ruin the entire company, they are lucky to still be in business for that matter. Microsoft can take the hit and sell a more expensive console because their income resources are limitless, however Sony is not in that position and Nintendo relies on making a profit on their consoles in order to stay in business. That is the difference, and Nintendo still truly doesn't have the kind of market share to be able to release a sheer powerhouse and lose money on it in the process.

No it actually does make sense as the Wii U is directly competing against the PS3 and Xbox 360. There are now 4 main consoles and the Wii U is the one with the least amount of exclusives and in my opinion Nintendo released this console at the wrong time. They should have released it a few months before the release of the PS4 or Xbox 720 (whichever one comes first). The Wii U has the same graphical if not worse graphical capability's than the Ps3/Xbox360 so why would it not be competing against it?

Also most of the PS3/Xbox360 games run at 720P natively but you also must realize that you're comparing games that are very easily rendered graphically such as Mario compared to games with all of the bells and whistles such as Uncharted graphically. You're statement of the Wii U being able to play games at 1080P natively is like me saying that I can run Super Meat Boy at 1080P which somehow makes my PC amazing.

Not me every time. Example is Goldeneye. I can't stand the remake vs the old N64 one. It's ok for me on Wii but I go into a sensory overload sometimes playing that game multiplayer on PS3 and Xbox. Sometimes, I just miss those plain textures that are only separated by colors. I just don't always enjoy tons of detail in my games. I don't game for a real life simulation personally.

Of course, I'm old though so....

If a new game were available on multiple platforms (ie PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U) and it doesn't perform like GTA IV does on PC, which version would you get?

Also older games will never lose their charm:

You would be fired in the business world with your directions and ideas. So it's a better idea to launch only a few months ahead of your competitors instead of getting a major jump, getting early sales, giving your system time to mature and work the bugs out and have good looking games and AAA titles out just waiting on the competitors launch.

The Wii won this last console war, no contest. Sales speak for themselves. Wii competed with 360/ps3. The Wii U is a lone next gen console much like 360 was at the time.

You lost all credibility with me once you actually said the Wii U is the one with the least amount of exclusives.... really....REALLY? Besides the launch Mario title (which is an excellent game btw) they do not have any big exclusives right now, when it has zero competition. Mario / Zelda / Metroid and the entire vast library of exclusives sell like hotcakes at all times. Nintendo's catalog is by far the most unique list of exclusives, and as always, Nintendo will profit from them.

This said I can only name two exclusives on 360 that really make me wish they were on PC. Halo and Forza. That's it.

PS3? Yea, it's got some too I'd like.

Overall however, both of those consoles titles and a majority of their AAA games are available on PC as well and are generally much more visually appealing there, let alone the benefits of a FPS on pc.

I wouldn't even own a 360 if it wasnt for forza.

Dreamcast was a victim of SEGA themselves and their lack of direction not so much related to hardware. It was not hard to code that's the PS2 you are thinking of. You have to remember the the Dreamcast was coming off the huge success that was the PS1 and the massive line of flops from SEGA (32X/SCD/SATURN) where SEGA burned gamers, retailers, video rental's (Huge at that time) Publishers and Developers.

The success of the PS1 made the PS2 a super hyped machine. And it included a DVD player (new and popular at that time).
SEGA hit that first bump in the road with the Dreamcast when the PS2 launched and in typical SEGA fashion didn't know what to do. They changed management yet again and the new President pulled the plug on the entire hardware division. Had they knew what they were doing with marketing, and didn't have that awful history behind the name, the Dreamcast could have survived that Generation.

Most launch PS2 titles were far behind the beauty that was Dreamcast games and that console wasn't even being pushed yet.
Imagine what could have been.

This is a case by case basis for me. As I pointed out I prefer the Goldeneye remake on the Wii over the HD Twins versions.
Sometimes a multiplatform game has the adv on the weaker HW because it's a different machine entirely like Wii. At times I'll take
weaker visuals infavor of the control type. Wii U currently has this adv with the Gamepad but I don't think it's in the same league as the Wii Remote at all.

I don't care about your opinion of my business sense, the Wii U doesn't even cater to gamers over say age 16 so their release window is as wide as they want it to be. The Wii might have won a console war but they all won in the end as they all cater to certain groups of gamers and sold a very high # of consoles/games. I have a wii but I never play it as the games on it are too "childish". Being able to run these "childish" games at 1080P seems like it would be easy on just about any system.

By the way the Wii U IS the console with the least # of exclusives as the PS3 has tons of exclusives while the Wii U has what? A new Super Mario Bros, Zombie game, and maybe 3 other exclusives while the rest are multiplatform games that have yet to be released on the Wii U.

They don't have any competition because they cater to young kids, the PS3 and Xbox both are better than the Wii if you're not into the kind of games like Zelda and Mario.

The PS3 has zero exclusives on the PC so your argument about the triple AAA games available on the PS3 AND PC is incorrect. Wheres MGS4, Uncharted Series, Heavy Rain, Infamous, Killzone, Socom, Red Dead Redemption, Last Of Us, (and I could go on and on and on) for the PC???

This is the reason why I bought the new PS3 as the PS3 has better games than even the PC in my opinion. PC gaming has gone way down hill as now I find myself just playing indie titles on it or games that are 10 years old such as Fallout Tactics or Planescape. There used to be a reason why people would upgrade their PC's in order to play the latest and greatest like HL2, Orange Box, and say Bioshock but those years are gone I don;t see a reason to upgrade anymore for gaming as now the best PC games are indie titles being released or games that are retro throwbacks or older games that will run on a 10 year old PC whereas the consoles especially the PS3 are getting really, really good games that will never see the light of day on the PC.

Personally I could care less about graphics too as you can obviously tell.

The PC just gets hand me down generic multi platform games like Assassins Creed now that run better on the consoles than PC due to them being console games first and PC games second.
