AMD Phenom X6 1045T VS AMD Phenom X4 965 - Page 2

You will be happy with it. Just grab a decent CPU cooler and have at it with the OCing! Toss a build log too for it. When you start building it.
Not to draw criticism, but if you are going to OC the chip more than a few points, then you do not need the retail box, and can apply that money to whatever cooler you are going to get. The chips are physically the same. Just sayin'. However, if you do not have a cooler handy.........

I think its not a bad idea cause its just $10 extra and having an extra cooler sitting around can be handy. I have learned that having a lot of spare parts lying around can come in REALLY handy in a pinch. wink.gif

Yes, I may pick up OEM version because I already have aftermarket cooler! I wonder how it will perform compared to my current rig i7 920 D0!

I would get the 1045 but thats just me hating my C2 frown.gif

With a C3 Deneb (9xx) you're looking at 4GHz max stable OC and 4.2 if you're lucky. With a Thuban(10xxT) you have two more Deneb cores, a possible FSB OC of 3.8 with all six cores as well as a better IMC to clock up your NB.

I would honestly in my opinion go for the Thuban since games are starting to get multi-threaded and you have stated you play MMO's and want to do stuff like photoshop on this rig. Sure the 965 will be easier to clock with an unlocked multiplier but with sufficient cooling you can get close to the same clocks on the 1045T and the additional threads you're going to find those cores to be beneficial.

i did hit 3.7 Ghz on my 1045T @ stock volt on my 990FXA-UD3 i think it could hit 4G hz if i increase voltage tongue.gif (i did prime95 @ 8 hours and nothing! max temps were 43(with HWMonitor Pro), but i have great airflow in my case)

I feel I'm going to get immediately hated, but I cannot in any respect, recommend a PII. You have a 920 @ 4GHz, that should easily outrun any PII. Either stick with what you have, get Ivy, or get a Vishera. PII is old news.

I am not really trying to compete with my current i7 920 4ghz. I just need 2nd computer to do my work. If it's close to i7 920 D0, I'll be happy.

I have cheap amd motherboard, so i don't expect to OC that high with 1045T.

Then don't expect the 965 to OC any better either. You are going to need almost the same volts for both CPU's assuming OC capability.

I would honestly take a 6 Thuban core @ 3.8GHz over a 4 Deneb core @ 4-4.2GHz. You say you actually use it for working with multi-threaded applications. Then get the 6 core and clock it up...

hmm.. yea multi tasking is somewhat important for me.
do you think my motherboard is lack of OC?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=4QANIkWJEeK0FsKe19bShwhpR1_EYGJ3_SeK_0_0&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16813131872

I only found someone who OC'ed fx 4100 to 4ghz. I think default is like 3.6ghz lol
so phenom 965 BE isn't good for multi tasking compared to 1045T?
