Thread Starter
Hi, im from Perú. I need a HDD of 1TB. Which of these 3?

Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1TB ST1000DM003 $95

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB WD1002FAEX $120

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB WD10EZEX $95

All are SATA III and with 64MB cache.

The use is for all (SO, games, movies, music, series, etc, etc)

Thanks for the help.

Greetings from Perú.

Afaik the blacks are binned for their 5 year warranty, or was that when WD still gave 5yr warranties?

There should be no noticeable speed difference between the WD blacks and the blues, just don't get greens because they are more for storage rather than boot drives.

Almost all Seagate drives that I, and other friends/family have owned have died and I don't recommend you get them at all. All different models and revision ranging from 80GB - 2TB, 5.4k - 7.2k, 8MB - 64MB cache have died within a year.

So the Caviar Black is more faster than the Caviar Blue, but is more noisy.

Seagate out?

The Blacks are not so much faster than the Blue's you can make up some of the speed difference by formatting in 8k rather than default (4k).

But if you'd like the 5 year warranty (which is definitely good on Hard Drives) then it's worth spending the little extra on the Blacks for warranty purposes
