Seagate 7200.14, Caviar Blue or Caviar Black? - Page 2

I agree with SpartanVXL they are pretty close to being the same Hard drive. The 5 year warranty is worth it in my opinion though. Hard Drives can dye at any time so the longer the warranty the better

HDD Roundup in most of the tests, the Seagates are quite a bit faster depending on which one you get (depending on the platters).

Personally I own 3 Seagates and 1 WD. I have had the Seagates for the longest (one of them being at least 5 years old) and not one of them has died yet.

The linked tests don't test for stability, but in pure performance. Here are some stats posted although no source was given.

Total returns for 2011:

- Samsung 1.5%
- Seagate 1.8% (1.6% not including the 7200.11 160 GB)
- Western 2.0%
- Hitachi 3.0%

Im just saying, I was not knocking seagate or anything like that because I have had both those brands and I believe both have good drives though my personal preference goes to WD.

Well... The 7200.14 is out of stock for the moment, so my options are the C.Black or C. Blue.

I read that some Blacks are noisy, but some not. Just is luck?

I repeat, sorry for my english tongue.gif

They are all 7200RPM disks, they should in theory be the same in noise level. Honestly if you are worried about noise i'd look at your case fans and not the HDD.

Black => 5 year warranty for more $$
Blue => you want to save $30 for essentially the same performance

Sorry sorry... A last question biggrin.gif

What about WD Red WD10EFRX? Here, in Peru, the Blue costs $90, Black $120 and the Red $109.

Thanks again!

Reds are slow speed, comparable to WD greens (5400rpm) but longer rated for continuous use and being accessed in a stop-go sequence often. Don't get for gaming/programs.

Reds are optimized for network storage. No head parking, TLER set for RAID, advanced features like vibration detection, etc.; that said, they are Greens with 1TB platters... high access times and a 3 year warranty. I'd take the Black or Blue over the Red for your usage.
