Only crash in SLI

Thread Starter
Any thoughts on why my computer crashes in SLI mode when gaming? Usually it happens within the first 5 minutes. Initially I though one of my cards had gone bad but I can run a single card (I've tried both) on a couple games and nothing crashes. I'd suspect my PSU is going bad but I figured I'd ask here first. Interestingly enough it didn't crash when I ran Heaven for 15 minutes in SLI. I will run this again for a longer period of time to see if I just got lucky.

Symptoms: Screen goes black and the audio begins to loop. Then the audio cuts out and I have to push the restart button on my case.

I found this thread, but the ultimate issue was a waterblock, so I'm still stuck.

I have this PSU. If it's the cause, I can probably get it replaced under warranty.

That PSU is way more than enough for two 570s.  You could easily have 3 of them and still have headroom.

The only things I can think of would be that adding the 2nd card destabilizes the system if your CPU is overclocked, or the other thing might be a slightly defective card.

Both cards will drive games just fine on their own. I've switched them around. CPU is overclock should be plenty stable. OC is 4.2Ghz on 2500k, which I feel is pretty conservative.

Can you save this overclock to a profile in the BIOS and then test SLi with the CPU completely at stock?

But what happens when you put it all back to stock. That would be the ideal thing to do and then check the sli. Thanks

Looks like I don't have to do any of that. Turned on my computer today and was greeted with horrible artifacting on the post screen. Pulled out the card and switched the other into the main slot and everything was better. Any chance baking will extend its life?
