Is my CPU too hot?

I have a liquid cooled AMD Phenom II x4 840, OC 3.6GHz. At idle the temps are ~50C, and under load, it reaches ~70C, with about 60-80% total usage. I was wondering if these temps are fine, or not?

Seems really high - especially the idle temps. Have you tried resetting the cooler? Specifically the CPU block.

way too hot, maximum temp for that cpu is 71c

Yeah there is something wrong. Those temps are way too high. What kind of liquid cooling system are you using? I would try re-mounting your block and putting new TIM on the CPU as well. It could be just a bad mount.

I have my 970 black @ 4.1Ghz 1.57v under a custom loop with a 420mm rad to it's self and i get around 26c idle and 48c at most under load.

I just cleaned my Fans, using the ARC push pull dual fans. About the TIM, I'm a bit worried something might go wrong if I paste it myself. Bit of a newbie here.

dusting out your fans can help some, but if you want real results i suggest putting some better thermal paste on.

I did clean it, but the changes were minor. As for the fan orientation, I'm not 100% sure about it. I made it so that it pushes the air in from the back, and pulls it in from the inside.

I guess I'll try buying some thermal paste.

Well I'm not sure what the brand is, since it just says ARC cool on the fans. Its a fan upgrade made on iBuypower an year ago. The upgrade name is Dual silent Push pull fans. The specs are
Fan Speed (RPM) 1500 (±15%)
Air Flow 53.30 CFM
Noise 28.44 dBA
Pressure (Max)(mm-H20) 1.50
Feature "Push/Pull" configuration features a fan on each side of the radiator for improved airflow and cooling efficiency.

Is your radiator clean?
