The maple version looks like it would crack easily. After all, the parts of a keyboard are very thin. Perhaps the harder walnut version would be better. I doubt it would be very useful unless you keep it well maintained. Wood on wood tends to seize up unless it's well oiled and sanded very smooth.

thought about getting one for my sister with a I-pad for Christmas bout you put a good point across as she has already broken her laptops keyboard, charger and her battery a few times
