*You would need 1900mhz for 3G to have all bands with ATT.. as you only have 1x of the 2x bands [800mhz].
*You would need 700mhz for LTE/4G to work correctly with ATT.. as they dont have 2100mhz LTE launched in the US yet.. only 700mhz.

Crap...it works up here in Canada but I am looking to move down there for school, looks like I have to sell it frown.gif

Being in Canadia, do you have a i777? Seems like you have already done research, did you confirm at gsmarena?
Anyways, depending on where you will be, S2's go for decent amount of money.

If you get a phone from AT&T and are able to get it unlocked, you can use on T-Mobile but will only get Edge (slow speed).

I hate to derail but does this explain mine as well. iphone 4 originally got on ATT, recently unlocked and switched to tmobile. Never get 3g only edge i guess its called. Its just a E on the top where it used to say 3g all the time. Only happened since changed to tmobile.

Your phone does not have the 2nd frequency band required to work on Tmo's HSDPA+ network.. so 1900mhz GSM EDGE [which is really really slow.. slower than 3G substantially] is the only operating frequency you can grab of Tmo's.

*If you start with ATT.. and go TMO.. you need the following to have full speed 3/4G with Tmo:

800mhz

2100mhz

*If you start with Tmo and go ATT.. you need the following to have full speed 3G/4G [no LTE though]:

800mhz

1900mhz

ATT uses bands independently .. this means you can Tx/Rx from the same band. Tmo.. uses separated uplink and downlink.. so you have; Tx on 800.. and Rx on 2100 [or vice versa]. This is why without BOTH bands.. your phone will NEVER get 3G reception from Tmo.. only GSM EDGE [1MB].

I did the same thing. Only received Edge service from Tmo. I solved by flashing the radio with the Blaze radio available via XDA. this enables the 1700 and 2100 Mhz frequencies and I get 4G and HSPA just fine.

Can you link us to any howtos to flash the radio? Is that possible on any phone?

I'm kind of in the same boat, I've been stuck on what to do for a few weeks. I'm currently with verizon, they suck, and my agreement is up so I'd like to get away from it. The 2 or 3 phones I actually like are AT&T freqs only. AT&T sucks and is $$$$, so I was looking at the t-mo straight talk which seems alright to me. But then I get stuck with a less than ideal phone. So, for me it's either

A) stick with verizon and keep putting up with their BS and poor phone selection
B) pay through the nose for AT&T and put up with their nonsense, but get the phone I like
C) go straight talk and save some $ but get the wrong phone
D) flash the radio on the sony phone to work with t-mo
stable again

OK

Here's the link to the XDA site that contains all the roms/radios/etc for the skyrocket.

If you want to use straighttalk with a purchased phone, it may be a good idea to buy an unlocked phone that was used on the T-Mobile network.

Good Luck
