Problem with activating windows 8 on a new SSD.

Thread Starter
Previously, I installed windows 8 on my OLD SSD, it was activated without a problem. Then, I brought a NEW SSD. Here's what I did yesterday...
1st) I reformatted my OLD SSD with windows 8 activated (so this old ssd is empty, and i'm planning to use it as my secondary store drive)
2nd) I hooked a NEW SSD up with MOBO
3rd) I installed windows 8 on a NEW SSD
4th) I tried to activate with windows 8 on a NEW SSD, but it doesn't work.

Here's a problem...it didn't let me activate my windows 8 on a new ssd, it says that my key doesn't work or already activated.

Please help me solve this problem! guys.

Phone up Microsoft and explain to them you have changed hardware. This happened to me with Windows 7 when I changed motherboard, they were very good about it, 10 minutes on the phone and it was all sorted biggrin.gif

Boot old SSD and use Advanced Tokens Manager to backup the activation, then exchange SSDs and use the program to restore the activation on new SSD.

disconnect the PC from the net
use the telephone activate option

it will give you a phone according to where you live for automatic activation (well not aoutomatic but you dont need to talk or explain anything just give them what they ask and fill in there response its all done by autoanswering machine)

Open command prompt, run as administrative. Type this in or paste, your choice.
Code:
slmgr rearm

Reboot and then try activating it. Thanks

Any error code showing up when activating. Form what you've described it's most probably this error code: 0xc004f061

If that is the case, perform method #2 on this link http://winsupersite.com/article/windows-7/clean-install-windows-7-with-upgrade-media-128512 if you really don't want to be calling MS tech support.

You can actually call MS tech support through phone for this issue at 1-800-936-5700 (U.S.) or chat at http://answerdesk.microsoftstore.com/AnswerTech (Worldwide)
