Good bye Windows 7, hello "nurse" Win 8

Well I am saying good bye to windows 7 and updating to windows 8.. No one likes change specially once one feels that something has been accomplished , knowledge and knowhow.... but that is the tech world always changing evolving... learning and adapting.... That is why I took the challenge to update... There is a whole generation behind you that learned not with a keyboard but with the touchy feely and free "smart phone Interface... to them Win 8 naturale... to us old fosils....the biggest donkey crap pile ever handed to someone.

You are in for a good surprise then.

Tell me if you find any mods that completely remove Metro and add the start menu back.

Ok, lets break it down,

Downloaded WIn 8 Pro Update from Microsoft website. (digital Update, No media)

It checked compatibility with the current OS (Win 7 Pro) other software loaded in the computer.

This is where I ran into a snag, it did not like the AI Suit from Asus (I own Sabertooth 990Fx Gen1)

It tried to uninstall AI software but could not, I stopped the process, rebooted into Win 7 to uninstall, I got to tell you that AI program was stuck like

a piece of gum on your shoe. After trying 3 times I decided to a clean install option, I did not loose much data because I run most of my programs

and keep my data on my D: drive.

The update process went fairly quick, as it finish downloading I was given a software key then rebooted and started upgrading. Once the upgrade

process was done my computer loaded win 8. Let me tell you, it was a bit frustrating not knowing how to navigate the new interface. But I am

getting the hang of it, and begging to enjoy the new "start" menu. As far as software is concerned, I used all the cds to load my drivers, which

worked on Win 7 except the AI software which was not compatible.

The one thing that gave me a huge headache was the sound, everything worked but no sound. I downloaded 2 sound drivers from Asus website

but no luck. After hours of trouble shooting, I disconnected the front panel audio connection from motherboard. All my speakers are working now,

maybe the audio drivers need more tuning from manufacturer. I have not found any app that places the start menu, but I find myself liking this new

interface so most likely I will stick how it is for now.

I have been trying to like Windows 8 since the previews were available.
I like its faster boot times on HDD's, seems pretty snappy overall. I miss the start button and really don't care for Metro (I know there are options for that). I used it for a month straight just to really try it, and I am back on Windows 7. Metro on a desktop just does not work for me.
I actually would like it on 2 of my computers, but can't.
1 is a netbook (Windows 8 requires 1024 x 768, my netbook is 1024 x 600) and the other is a HTPC (Windows 8 will not boot directly into WMC without some workarounds). I could deal with the workarounds, but Windows 8 also has issues with Windows Home Server 2011, which I also use.
I am glad I only spent $15 on the upgrade Windows 8 (and was able to get a free key for Media Center) because I am not using it.

I find that windows 8 is pretty snappy over all, feels lighter than 7 and I quite like the simple aesthetics, the only thing I hate is the navigation and the metro UI, It just does not feel like windows anymore. I guess as time passes people will start to get used to the metro ui .

OP, I have Sabertooth R 2.0 and AI Suite is working without the slightest problem on windows 8. Just hate that Asus EZ Update and don't know how to disable it but rest is fine.

Surely you will succeed as well.

I have the same motherboard as you, sabertooth 990fx rev 1 and I ran into the same problem with AI Suite when trying to install windows 8. I told there was a problem with the ai charger. I removed the AI charger from the ai suite and windows 8 proceeded to install correctly. Windows 8 operates just fine with AI Suite on my rig, just had to remove the ai charger. Hope this helps if you want the ai suite program.
