whether the benefits of under-volt memory ?

Thread Starter
I'm running Patriot Memory DDR3 2133 Cl11 1.65V. Because of X79 specification i decided to test this memory on 1.5V and it working already one year without any problem on this 1,5V .
By my mistake during one of my experiment with bios settings, yesterday i found that this memory can work at as low as 1.35V.
Question is is it there any benefits of running memory at such low voltage? Should i experiment more on this subject?

Lower voltage just consumes less power and creates less heat. For memory, it's not a big deal since memory doesn't create a ton of heat (relative to a CPU), but people buy low-voltage memory because it typically means they'll be able to overclock it higher than normal memory.

Every little bit counts, especially once you start multiplying the DIMMs.

There is certainly a noticeable difference in board temps on my system with eight DIMMs at ~1.35v vs ~1.6v, even if everything else stays the same.

I have a good airflow in my case and only 4 sticks with lot of space between them (LGA2011). I think from this discovery I will not benefit much smile.gif
