I don't see any benefits of it for myself for the next 3 years. USB 3.0 will do just fine for external devices and SATA 6 Gbps for internal for my use.
TV analogy totally proves my point. How long did it take for 32" 1080P TV to get from $1000 to $500? About 2-3 years, right?
So why pay now for something that there is no use for when you can get it for cheaper at the time it becomes useful?
Whether it is useful for one or not, it's up to individual to decide.

Yes it took a few yrs, but I will be using Thunderbolt as soon as next yr. I'm a big movie buff & I know it will come in handy. I know a person that uses the Express Dock. He's getting better Internet download speed with it. I mean a considerable amout too! That's like me saying to a gamer with an X79 Rig with three or four cards & he playing on a 1080 screen that he don't need it. Hitman & Far Cry made people re-think their Rigs out of nowhere..... A 580 was playing everything last yr maxed out, but can't play either of those games maxed out now. Who would've thought that?

Then go for TB board thumb.gif. As long as you can justify, it's a way to go.

One thing to consider though is that MVE has just 1 port. If you go G1 + expansion card route, you can have more for less. There aren't yet any PCI-E Thunderbolts around, but there should be in a year. And you aren't losing anything since current Thunderbolt ports use PCI-E lanes anyway.

What you say about Internet is confusing. Current NICs are tied to PCI-E x1 2.0 that has more than enough speed for 1 Gbps. Internet shouldn't be faster on Thunderbolt Dock unless they use a significantly better controller.

From what I understand it's the channels that gets the job done.... That's why the net is faster....

The only thing i don't like about the Extreme V is the VRM water cooling design.

The ports are way to small and should have been G1/4 thread type.

I don't know if Patrick plans on water cooling but that would be a turn off for me.
