Need help with a Paper on Public Key Crypto/Privacy

I'm currently writing a paper that, as the title states,is on public key cryptography (RSA, PGP, etc) and its affect on privacy. In case any of you care, the actual research question is:

" Is RSA, and it's derivatives, such as PGP, good for the welfare of our global society?"

I already know that the opinion of most of you on here will probably be leaning more into the pro-RSA camp, but that's not what I need from you guys. If any of you have any sources (articles, studies, reports, etc) that would apply to this, could you please post them. What I'm looking for is:

1. Defend one side or the other. That bit is key. I want this paper to be as balanced as possible, so I want to present both sides equally. So I want opinions from both camps.

Or

2. Give information about the use of public key crypto in out society today, and its effects. What I'm talking about here is studies or surveys. Something that states facts or statistics about the usage and/or the effect of this usage on law enforcement, crime prevention, etc. I need this because a major part of the paper is analysing the claims of both sides and determing how valid they really are.

Thanks in advance guys!

P.S. I didn't know where else to post this. Please don't turn this into a debate about privacy, I don't want the mods deleting this thread before I can get any actual use from it.

I'd look into the whole WikiLeaks thing.

Explore the idea, do people have the right to use crypto technologies to cover themselves in whistle blower situations...

Another angle, do criminals have the right to use it to hide their crimes...

Another, do governments have the right to control crypto standards for "security reasons" (my view is hell no)

FWIW I'm 100% for peoples right to use cryptography.

Sorry, Christmas and school happened, haven't had a changce to check this thing...

Thanks for the suggestions, but I already have a plan of how I'm going to go about attacking this paper. What I need are sources. Websites, books, videos, interviews. Things I can use as sources of information on issues and evidence to support analysis.

Don't know exactly the depth your professor is looking for, but I great read would be "The Code Book" It pretty much takes the history of code (from ciphers to one way functions that make up RSA encryption). Seems like the book would be perfect for giving reason why encryption is so important.
