Because if not, TF2, Penumbra, Amnesia, and Killing Floor (and many others in Steam) can be added since they are Linux native and available on Steam. And I guess, if TF2 is becoming native, it would follow that their other source games (L4D2 in particular), meaning CS:GO, CS:S, and HL games/Garry's Mod will be ported too.
By the way I can't start the Linux native version of TF2 in Linux, can I ask about it here?

This thread is going to be centered around wine-specific tweaks and settings; most Linux native games work in Linux without any tweaking or hacking, bar a few exceptions here and there. The "Purpose" section of the main post reflects this.

From there, there is a thread already on an issue with TF2 starting, I would suggest reading it and seeing if its the same issue, if not, feel free to create a new thread about the Linux native executable for troubleshooting (if its a different issue);
This thread is here:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1340538/tf2-on-linux-not-starting-message
A good starting point for troubleshooting in Linux is running the application from a terminal; this provides you with all STDOUT messages so you can plug them in Google. Try not to include memory address ranges in any Google searches; as those change with each execution of the game (things like ____ Exception thrown at [0xXXXXXXXXXX] etc..., just drop the 0x... portion of it, so it doesn't remove results)

I tried Ubuntu 13.04 for a week to check out linux gaming to compare some games to Windows.

Games i tried:

Dota 2 : Working great! with some Glitchy shadows sometimes.... But id say good enough compared to Windows
Killing Floor : Game underperformance compared to Windows & Sound not working proper.
Guns of Icarus Online : Runs perfectly compared to Windows

I did never managed to fix my soundcard and/or get my videocard working optimal.
So i kinda gave up on Linux there sinds my hardware did not work proper.

My goal was to run World of Warcraft on Linux , but i never managed to figure out how Wine works.... installing is easy from the software center but thats it....
So many Tutorials and topics for linux giving the impression thats its possible and easy!

But it feels impossible when u actualy want to try it yourself without help O.o

Or just bad written tutorials that skips the First steps/Basics wich i dont know.

Just wanted to share my (little) experiance with linux gaming :3

It sure would be great if i knew somebody who could help , but sinds i dont i am switching back to Windows 8

I will have to monitor this thread/project because I would love to have everything available to play on Linux. So far I have successfully installed Steam through Wine and Play On Linux, but I have had no luck getting any of my games to play (Sleeping Dogs, Sniper Elite v2, Far Cry 3)

But as I play around, and eventually get it working, I will post the updated settings, tweaks, and package installs here

Thnx OP
