Having some issues.

Thread Starter
Hey guys,i'm new here, and new to computers in general. I recently built myself a computer, and my gpu (an msi twin frozr III 660 oc) doesn't seem to be able to overclock...at all. Im using msi afterburner and have increased my core clock in increments of 10,and then tested it on the following,3dmark11,unigine heaven, and metro 2033's benchmarking tool, and yet,my score is always lower than my base score from when i made no changes at all to my card. Im hoping someone could shine some light on what maybe going on with my card, cos this is driving me mad.

Thanks for any and all help.

welcome to OCN. when using MSI afterburner what exactly are you bumping up? just the core voltage? the shaders?

i put the power limit up to 110 (i think the card has a locked power limit) and then all iv tried so far is the core clock, because reading around it says to only do the memory clock after you've found a stable overclock on the core. Thank you for the fast reply.

Keep moving the core clock up until it becomes unstable. Run a Unigine Heaven run with everything maxed out and save the results. Then run it again after adding 50MHz to the core clock. Post both screen shots in this thread.

there is a setting in MSI afterburner to change the voltage if it appears locked.

The program may crash, then you know you can't go that high, so you back it down some. Standard overclocking procedure of finding limits and that working with that information.

which is 110 on the msi afterburner. I got the following results from unigine (cant find where it saved the damn results) FPS - 51.6, score 1299, min FPS 16.2,max FPS 116.1. That's with no overclock, with an overclock of 50mhz (or just 50 on the slider) its dropped,(but also increased)FPS - 50.9, score - 1283, min FPS - 14.4,max FPS - 126.3.
