Questions on best 2d surround + accessory monitor setup. Asus P8Z77-V Pro and 2-way SLI + 3rd graphics card or no?

Howdy,

First, the question; if I want to power four monitors with cards in a Asus P8z77-V Pro, can I run the fourth screen as an "accessory" monitor with minimal impact on 2d surround gaming on the other three monitors using just 2-way SLI? I have a spare Geforce 280 GTX and Geforce 550 GTX sitting around that I could slap in the third x16 PCI-E slot for a dedicated card for accessory monitor (1920x1200)

I'm running a OC'd core i5 3570k at 4.4GHz, and two 2GB Gigabyte 670 GTX cards in 2-way SLI. I have the 880 watt Seasonic Platinum PSU, so I'm not worried about power.

I'm thinking about trying to expand my setup to include three Catleap 27" screens at 2560x1440 each. Won't adding a third card lower the lane speeds? Would the decrease in lane speed impact performance? Would slapping in the spare card be less of a performance hit than running the 4th monitor as an "accessory?"
